Lone Butte Hell or High Water BC 3 Gun Championships 2022 - July 30-31

Well this is Very SAD to Hear ! :( RJ

Agreed. Was looking forward to this match.

I did the last one in 2019 and had a great time. Lots of excellent stages and my squad mates were a good bunch.

From memory that match had over 120 people, fast forward 3 years and the banning of ARs / 3 gun orientated shotguns not to mention all the uncertainty around handguns has obviously took its toll. Throw in high gas prices and inflation in general and thats why a match of this calibre can only muster 26 entries.

Thanks King Turdhole. Cant wait for the day that Canada finally wakes up and shows you the door. Worst PM in history.

out of curiosity what do people need to shoot a 3 gun match? is this part of ipsc and need a black badge? or is 3 gun it's own league? rules, certs etc?

I would be interested next summer if it goes. I have been to that range many years ago to another cgn event.

I did ipsc over 10 years ago and I'm hopping to get back into it this summer. But I have never done a 3 gun.

Not sure if Black Badge is a requirement but it wont be a hinderance.

All the 3 Gun I have been to use UML rules (United Multigun League), these are not connected to IPSC in any way.

It’s a lot of fun
Club events are standard
Most you don’t draw with a loaded pistol rather it’s on a table or you have to load which makes it fun
Rifles are mostly staged unloaded
Same with shotgun but this can vary with clubs
The most important thing to do is to show up, ask questions if in doubt, be safe, and be a team player by helping set-up/tear down.
You love it…

All you really need is 3 guns…Once you have that and the gear to carry ammo you should be good to go, especially if you are familiar with action shooting…Safety is the biggest concern and most rules centre around that. There are a couple generally accepted rule books and they are mostly similar…You may encounter differences in scoring and division requirements, but that’s easy to deal with.

Best advice is to reach out to the Match Director of any matches you are interested in and get the lay of the land from them. You could go and watch a match or two to get the feel but it’d be more fun to just jump right in. Most MD’s and competitors are welcoming with new shooters, especially safe and competent ones so the people on your squad will also help a lot.

Here in Ontario, two of our current leagues (Canadian Multigun Series & NR3G) run Intro to Multigun / training days early in the spring to orient new competitors…Check if there’s anything like that in your area.

The million dollar question for me is if this event (and indeed other similar events) will happen in 2023?

It is painful to think that an event which was so well supported in 2019 (guessing at the number of competitors but must have been 120+) couldn't run this year due to abysmally low numbers (26 confirmed).

There are many factors which are not positive:

1) The ongoing campaign by the government against gun owners in Canada. This is the main reason I feel and there are many indirect issues which come from this. If nothing else some people of the more nervous nature will simply think that its too risky which could mean they unknowingly find themselves on the wrong side of the never changing laws and for them the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

2) ARs which were the tool of choice are banned / available NR equivalents are expensive and people are apprehensive about getting them for fear of more bans rendering them paperweights.

3) Lots of talk of mag limit changes which would hamper this type of sport. I dont know if I could be bothered with a 5 round rifle limit.

4) High fuel cost to travel to events.

5) High ammo costs.

6) Organizers like Graysonk losing heart. Running a match of this size / calibre is no small feat and if it is not going to be adequately supported I doubt they will waste their time moving forward.

If it doesn't happen what burns me most is that in essence King Turdhole will have "Won". He may say he supports legal sport shooters but the reality is very different.

Fingers crossed for 2023.
