Not sure if this is in the right section or not,but was wondering what's the difference between short and long actions? Is one better than the other, in terms of accuracy and function?

Short actions are for short cartridges ie: .308win, .243, .223, .303Savage, and so on. Long actions are for long cartridges ie 30.06, .270, .280 etc.

"...in terms of accuracy and function?..." None. The 'long action' is just that. Longer to accomodate longer cartridges. There are long and short 'magnum' actions too. Same difference.

Some people will point to short actions and say less weight, less chance to short stroke and not feed a round, and if a semi-auto its easier to cycle the action. Some people will then reply that weight difference insignificant, you should know how to operate your firearm, some manufacturers/models the action is the same, and rifle designed to work with round its chambered for.

Basically, its not a deep you fish but how you wiggle the worm.
