Long Branch conversion

... This Long Branch was converted by ALF. Parker and i am looking for more info on the history of the work done. Parker-Hale did a lot of these types but this one is marked Alf Parker. I am considering parting with it but what is it worth or more correctly what will a shooter or collector be willing to pay ? and what does the E22
stand for?

I believe the E22 is either an inspector or a batch lot when the weapon was refinished at LongBranch at some point. Not every rifle has those letter/numbers on them, and on stens, similar numbering is only on guns that were refinished here in Canada, whether they were Canadian or British made.

Since your rifle has the Faz FTR markings from it's conversion to mk1/3, it indicates it was in British service post war, so hard to explain when it would have been refinished in Canada.
 
The rifle was set up by AJ Parker, using an as new No. 4 Mk. 1/3 conversion, for DCRA full bore competition.
If you can trace the provenance of the rifle, and the owner competed with it, you will be able to find the scores it shot.

I'd be a shooter rather than a collector and I'd be willing to pay more than I can actually afford to. Nice rifle to have, nicer to have and shoot, I'm sure.
 
seeing as no one else has put a price on it let me say I bought something very similar last year with a few accessories for $950........I considered this to be a reasonable price
 
It's actually Alf. J. Parker meaning "Alfred J. Parker". You often see it written AJ Parker.

AJParker made sights and set up target erifles for Bisley, their shop was in Birmingham, UK. In your case, they used a no.4mk1/3. Likely only the receiver is longbranch, the rest is likely fazakerley parts from the 1950's.

Fwiw, the rear sights by themselves sell in the $250-$300 range.

I would suggest $900 is a little on the low side of the bolt matches and the bore is nice.
 
PS: when I used to shoot Target Enfield rifles on my high school shooting team, eons ago, I preferred the AJP sights to the Parker Hale sights. We had these in some Air Cadet squadrons also back in the 1980's, before they went to only .22 cno.7's, and then finally drill rifles.

The AJP sights were all steel and more solidly made. The later PH sights we had were of the aluminum base variety and tended to shoot loose over time. The AJPs had a reputation for holding zero.

Ah, the memories...
