Long Branch - "H" on barrel

I'm curious about one of the markings on my '44 "MP"-marked Long Branch. The marking is pictured here, though perhaps a bit hard to see. It's on the flat, near the Long Branch stamp and is an upper-case "H".

Merely an inspector's marking, or does it represent something else?
