I bought a long branch MK1 micrometer sight of ebay a few months back for something like 30.00, it was all rusted and seized but now it works great. The one issue I had though was it didn't want to go down to the 200 yard mark due to I guess what would be called an aperture reduction piece that was for lack of a better term hammered into the sight slide on the rear. So with some careful grinding I cut a notch to fit the little piece. What I'm wondering is if this "aperture reduction piece" is an original long branch addition or as I suspect it to be, an aftermarket "improvement" and would I be safe in drilling it out to try and return the sight to near its original state. Also if its not too much to ask would it be possible to gets some pictures of an original MK1 sight from the rear(side with no graduations) it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

oh,

I wonder what you ground away........

A small section of the leaf, basically a half moon that's about 1/4" long by 1/8" deep by 1/8" wide. I also realized the whole grinding a 65yr old ww2 sight may not have been the best choice but originally when I looked at the thing I thought it was a manufacturer defect because there was a flat spot on the "aperture reducer" which I imagine was to allow for the slide to go down to the 200 yard mark hence the grinding. But who ever put it in didn't care to check before it was hammered home. I'd also like to see pictures just to compare the back side of the slide.

and for what its worth some pictures of the sight mind you there pretty big (click to enlarge).

A LB site you lucky bugger for $30 they are going for $200 now i have 3 i lucked out and got one for $85 but all were in mite shape.
You might have a 308 convertion site there the 303 site didn't work well with the 308/7.62 convertions so they modded the 303 site to dial it in not sure if the made new ones also.
