Markings

Long Branch used several markings. The "B" in a circle is probably LB joined, and you will also find CA with the A inside the C.

Cooey is usually found on sights, HWC
.

One to look for on a Number 4 is the 'ring-8' stamp, also called the "8-ball": figure 8 in a circle, stamped on the Knox-form. It indicates that the rifle has been tested and approved for Mark VIII amunition.

Rifle Markings

Have a look at Ian Skinnerton's book, "The Lee Enfield Story". The book covers everything about the Lee Enfield rifles.

It helped me out alot on my BSA-Shirley No.4Mk1.

Ian Skinnerton also has another book that covers just the markings on the rifle. It's referenced in the book I mentioned above.

You could also Google Ian Skinnerton to get his email address and ask him directly. Are collector friend of mine did this and Mr. Skinnerton was more than willing to help out. Send some pics along with your email.

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.
