Hello CGN,

Does anyone have a recommendation on a good quality long eye relief spotting scopes?

I am currently using a Zeiss Diascope spotter with a 15-45 Vario eyepiece but now that I have to wear glasses I am finding the eye relief is much too short to see through the scope properly. I end up being able to see only the center of the image with the sides a ring of black.

The magic of the internet has turned up Kowa spotters with a 25x LER eye piece. Anyone use one of these? Any good?

Are there any other makers out there?

Did Zeiss make any fixed power LER eyepieces for the Diascope? I cannot seem to find anything using my google-fu.

Thanks.

That is what I use on my 663. Works very well with glasses - or without.

I have the same problem being an eyeglass wearer.

I bought a Kowa 770 with the TE-11WZ 25-60X wide zoom eyepiece. I needed the high magnification for a variety of applications (not just shooting), so the 25X long eye relief eyepiece would not meet my needs. The Kowa TE-11WZ 25-60X eyepiece is not a long eye relief, but the glass diameter of the eyepiece is the widest I have seen, and even when my glasses are holding me back, I still get a half decent image, although it is still somewhat tunneled. I got into the habit years ago of taking my glasses off to get good full field of view, hassle though it is.

The Kowa 770 uses that large eyepiece. The next model down, the 663 uses the 25-60X TSE-Z9B 20-60x zoom eyepiece which has a much smaller diameter glass in the eyepiece. I never looked through it, but I guessed it would be worse for seeing with eye glasses, compared to the bigger TE-11WZ 25-60X. My budget was more aligned with the 663, but it was the bigger eyepiece that made me decide on the 770. That was a painful hit to the wallet, but that 770 spotting scope is really nice!

Kowa/Nikon makes a nice LER eyepiece.

There are quite a few LER astro. eyepiece available. From Explore Scientific/Celestron/Levenhuk/Zhumell/Baader

Baader makes a bayonet adapter, to use 1.25" and 2" eyepiece

Personally, I'm happy with a Celestron LER on a Pentax PF80
