Long-ish range, where to start?

In my never ending quest to figure out what to add to the collection next a longish range .22 might be fun, think like 200 yards. What are some good platforms to start with?

I've got a 10/22 take down and a Henry lever, though I feel like I should probably go with a bolt action.

Discuss?
 
Cz, Tikka, Anschutz, maybe Ruger (RPR) if you want to play lego. Good glass. Lots of time to play. Be warned, this is a deep rabbit hole from which you may not emerge. It absolutely will, though, make you a better shooter.

Take what you have out to 200 yards and see what happens. Do that for a while and get a feel for the range and inspiration may strike you as to where you should go. A 10/22 can be made to do whatever you want as long as your willing to dump $$$ into it. $500+ bolt guns like CZ's should get you there faster.

I do have a scope I could throw on the Henry, the 10/22 is red dotted atm for funsies. Good idea though, plus there's always a chance I'll run int someone at the range with something for me to try out.
 
Cz 455 or 457. Lots of aftermarket stocks and accessories available. You’re always better off spending a little more up front than upgrading a lesser rifle. Set your budget, double it, and you’re ready to go...

That's a toughie, I'm thinking 5-700, then 3-4 for a scope.
 
Own EXPENSIVE BRNO, shoot my HB Savage's and win.... Mark II early model and the later ones in Heavy barrel are amazing but to be fair I sort my rounds by weight and rim thickness, as for all guns I own and Savage wins hands down everytime…..

There's a nice Anschutz I'm eyeing, when I'm ready to buy and it's been sold then it wasn't meant to be... till then.

My 300 yard RF set-up and very happy with what it can do and how it feels:

- CZ 457 16" barrel
- MDT Chassis
- Area 419 bolt knob and 30 MOA scope mount
- Vortex DB Tactical 6-24 FFP
- Warne scope rings

As the old saying goes... Buy Once. Cry Once.

Pretty much every rimfire bolt and semi auto can reach out to 200yds with better quality match ammo. That is the real work, testing to find the right type and lot for your rifle.

I lean heavily on SK and Lapua products but some enjoy Eley and RWS. CCI SV might just work great for you too.

200yds is not all that far these days and accuracy can be surprisingly good.

Now if you want it to be great, then you look at the aftermarket barrel swap and I can help you with a variety of products and the technical side of making a good choice.

for a bolt rifle, I have done very well with a Savage MkII. Others swear by CZ and Tikka products. I have set up and currently competing with a 10/22 and it has done very well for me all season.

The furthest I have put lead on target was last Friday ... reached 520yds.

Not bad at all...

I'm going to toss in another vote for the savages, and I would flip your budget, 4-500 on a savage and 6-700 on glass. I think you will be much happier than the other way around.
 
i have a rugar 10/22 that i shoot out to 250 with about a 4'' grouping, using just Federal bulk ammo for plinking. standard barrel and ok optics.
