Long Lee Stock Availability

I passed on a Lee Metford at a gun show this past weekend because it was sporterized. Anybody know if original, or even replacement stocks are available anywhere for these.

I see barrel bands and other parts come up on eBay from time to time.

I'd like to get a Long Lee for my collection at some point, but the original condition ones are pricey, few, and far between.

I've got 1 1896 long lee, and two more as well as a 1896 carbine coming. The result is I need 4 stocks. I also have no idea where to find them. The only thing I can think of is to make a one, and then get it dupicated.

I also know some people who could be willing to make them, just need time to set up the machinery. They will be getting an original from me for copy purposes.

Stock availability

Check some of the Milsurp posts for one of the Members who is making stocks for the Ross rifle. He set up for this, and it looks like he will be making some stocks and fore-ends.

If there is enough demand for them, (and I can certainly see the demand for Lee Metford and Lee Enfield wood,) then he would probably make some.

The big thing is price. It takes a lot of time to make one of these items, along with the price of the wood, the consumables such as electricity, working space tied up, dust cleanup or dust system, and you have to make a bit of money for your time.

His first Ross M10 stock and handguard took over 30 hours, but I am sure that this will be reduced as he gets more familiar with the process.

The question is, "What are YOU willing to pay for them?"

I'm afraid Stoggie, just being one guy, has enough on his plate as is...
I know for a fact there are a lineup of guys hoping for a Mk III stock.

Long lee stocks do come up on ebay from time to time, very very pricey. Made by a fellow in New Zealand of Australia, not sure.

No1MkIII* Stock sets are up for sale all the time on ebay as well. $200 to $350.

If I managed to find a stock, how safe would it be to have it dulpicated. Does one of thoese stock dulpicating machines damage the original at all?

It depends on who's operating it. Rossguy had several made and the first time the maker treated the originals carefully...then for the last scratched the hell out of the pattern...

It's really best to use a crappy stock as a pattern, but one with full dimensions, not sanded down.
