It's just a practice, but it's long range team practice...

On Sunday June 5th at Base Borden Mons Range the ORA Target Rifle shooters are holding team circle training at 900 and 1000 yard distances. F Class shooters are invited to attend this type of practice. If you're interested in team shooting for the 2013 FCWC or the 2012 America Match this practice will help you.

Team shooting consists of three roles - shooter, coach, and plotter (sometimes known as assistant coach).

Circle training consists of assigning four or more people to a target, and then rotating those people through the cycle mark-shoot-coach-plot. Though originally developed for top level teams training, it also works very very well at all skill levels, from introducing brand new shooters to long range rifle shooting all the way up to people who are training for world championship level shooting.

Dan and Terry are right- this is a great chance for folks to develop new skills, and see how team shooting is done. A couple of things to remember though. This isn't a match. You participate to learn the team skills-and there are plenty of important ones, for the shooter, coach and assistant. Also, it's a very, very good idea for folks to show up with a solid zero- it can be frustrating for everybody when starting at 800m, when the shooter can't get onto the target. This doesn't mean a newbie has to have shot at distance before- just know where your 100m, or 300m zero is, so the others can extrapolate some data to get you onto the target. If you are on the fence, give it a shot- you will learn a bunch of valuable stuff, and have fun to boot.

That sounds like it would be a good time, and I bet a guy could learn a lot in that one day. Any chance you want to come to PEI to do the same? Oh, bring your 1000y range with you when you come :)

@Budweiser360 FYI we ran an Introductory Circle Training (600m) event last Sunday at St Anthony (Moncton area), which is as close to PEI as you can get without shooting on Alexandra Range.

We are running an Advanced Circle Training (900m) next weekend (5-June) at CFB Gagetown, NB. "Advanced" means that we'd really prefer that attendees have done at least one Circle Training already, and also to use a rifle that is known to be able to shoot 900m well.

See the RNBRA Fullbore Section Schedule for dates etc.

Re: your comment "I bet a guy could learn a lot in that one day", it is simply amazing how much and how quickly people learn from Circle Training. It is pretty typical for people who have never done any formal target shooting before, to actually understand group formation and group centering on their first day, and be making pretty darn intelligent group centering sight adjustments on their first day. It is a real pleasure to watch this stuff "click".

I'm getting to be fairly confident with my 300-600, but since I am limited by our range (Alexandra) I still have a lot to learn beyond that. I hope to make it over for a few matches this year. It would be nice to go to both PRA prize meets and the Atlantics but time, and budget, will tell.

Anyway, I hope there is a lot of people show up at Borden, it really should answer a lot of questions in a short period of time.

Ideally i would like to see 4-5 members of each class F/TR and F/Open so the F/Tr guys can train together and have similiar gear/calibers
