I posted this in the reloading section but had no replies so I figured I would try here.

So I just picked up a 300 WSM custom build and I'm looking for anyone with some load info for long range/precision loads.
I am thinking 208 AMAXs just because I've had good luck with them before, they are cheap and available pretty much everywhere.
I have Reloader 17 and H4831sc as well as many others but I figure one of these 2 powders will work well. I don't have any H4350 which seems like another really good choice, but I could get some.
The rifle has a 10 twist 24" barrel.

Any help from experienced LR/precision reloaders would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ivo

I have not really played with the 208's too much but I use Barnes lrx 175's and h4350 in a 10 twist 24 inch tube for about 2970 fps. They don't have as high a bc as the 208's but your not giving up the case volume either if your limited in your seating depth to fit your mag.

They're not cheap for plinking so I mainly use them for hunting but I've had good results shooting to 1000 yds for practice.

I found a good load for my Savage 10 fcp-k in 300 wsm with 208g Amax and 61.2g of R17. Don't have my records accessible now so can't tell you the exact OAL but single loaded as they would not quite clear the load ramp from the SA mag. I was getting just over 2820 fps with it and have hits on 13" steel out to 1250 yrds. But you have to be mindful of the temp. Last time out this summer during a hot day I got a sticky bolt and then one primer backed out. I stopped for the day. Normally they are no problem.

Remember this load was with my rifle so please do not immediately assume it will be safe in yours.

I think the heaviest I would like to go is 215 gr and the Berger would be the one but the prices on those are ridiculous lately and the 208 Amax doesn't give up much in B.C. I'll have to see how the gun likes the 208s, if not I'll likely try the 215 Bergers.
Father Hood, I will end up trying this load in my development starting a bit lower, around 63.5 grains of RL 17 seems to be a sweet spot for others but it sounds like it might be a really hot load.

Just started working on a 208-Amax load as well for LR hunting. I was fiddling around with a 180gr Accubond load for a long time but decided that was stupid and flipped over to the 208gr that I shoot in my LR 300WM.

I have only tried 59gr of H4350 so far and it was around 0.5MOA at 100m - I don't have my log book but I think was getting around 2700fps. I still have to sit down and formally make up loads from 58.5 - 60.5 to see where to hone in.

Will update when I get more info this weekend.

Don't forget about the Matrix projectiles. He has 210 vld's on his website and they are still reasonably priced.
I have no experience with his 30 cal stuff but his 6mm 117's were great in my 243AI.

If you have Reloader 22, try it. It is like a magic powder in the .300 Win Mag. Around 73 grains and a 190 Matchking works in almost every .300 Win Mag.

208gr A-Max with 59.0gr of H4350 got me an avg of 2624fps in the 300WSM. Nothing like the 300WM can push the 208's, which my avg is 2990fps.

I have a box of Berger Hunting VLD's in 190 and 210 that I want to try in the WSM. I really want to get my hands on some RL-17

EDIT:

208gr A-Max with 60.5Gr of IMR4350 gets me 2750fps on avg.
