Hello everyone, I'm just trying to see what type of interest is out there for shooting long range and participating in long range competitions, i am talking ranges of 500+ all calibers. I would like to show our gunclub that there is an interest and people would travel for shoot's, in hopes of getting our range extended to at least 1000 meters. I would like to have anyone in any dicipline that is interested in shooting to these ranges let me know, and let me know if you would be willing to travel if shoots were hosted in Fort mcmurray. We have an awsome shooting facility and this would just make it all the better.

My personal interest is Long range with a stratigic/tactical type shoot, engaging targets at various unknown/random ranges out to 1000+ based on time and accuracy involving range estimation (without laser range finder). If this type of shoot would interest you let me know.

Catthehat is our Rifle range guy and I know would like the range extended. If you would travel or if you live in Mcmurray post your interest here so we can document the interest. If you are interested in a Long range Tactical type shoot, PM me and I will do my best to get a club going up here in persuit of that interest. If anyone is already involved in the tactical shooting I would appreciate any competition suggestions.

Thanks Guys & Gals & Nutz

LRC, at the moment i am too busy formulatting a "tactical strike " on the beavers and their dam!
The dam beavers are plugging up0 everything with their Dam building, and as you know have dropped trees across our road access!
Also , their dam building will was out our bridge unless I eradictate it (and them) , so what with terrorizing deer and meese this fall, slaying birds with hte BP shooties, abd work, I have to get rid of those dam builders! :D
'Tis a task that is not without some fun factor attached however!
I may add "Dam beaver" to the list of things you can desrroy with a Snider /Enfield!
"Woodchuck " was first omm my list at a very young age - Father was not impressed ( neither was I after he found out!!)

Cat would be happy to help you remove the problem I'm off next week fri-tues pick a day. I believe we have some licenced trappers in the club that may be able to help with the problem also. Just a thought......then again the beavers may be a good way to start clearing trees out to 1000 meters.......lets bring in some equipment this winter and we will blame the beavers!!! I like it.

No problem for me to rap or shoot them , mucho experience in both fields, BTW!

We aere bringing in equipment this winmter after freeze up tp repair the berms and such, and some other stuff, like the start of a road to the 500 meter line.
I's a start, and I have been talking to the other members abopuit a 1K line, also...

Sign me up!!

I realize this thread is a little on the stale side, but I would love to join a long range rifle shoot club. I've just been reffered to this site buy another local buddy and there is great interest in getting something like this organized.

Welcome to Gunnnutz Holleyman!
We were out yesterday playing out to 500. at the F&G range.
LRC has a range set up near his place at Anzac, and I hhave the Outpost of the Empire range on the river where I get out to 1 mile.

You have a PM BTW....:D

Cat - John Vaughn originally had Keyano C. donate operators and equipment to do the original McMurray range. Any chance of soliciting them to push the range out to 1k?

Does the club own the land past the existing range?

Regards,

Joe

PS - I'm sure we could solicit input and suggestions from John as well.

I was also a member of the club then!
It sure has grown! ( 3 out of the 6 biathalon team members going to Alaska for the Arctic games are from Ft. Mac!)

The biggest problem is range control.
I have talked to the executive and we in fact have the lease out that far.

It would entail cutting the bush off at an angle between the IPSC range and the centerfire, which would also involve a big issue with safety when downrange to change targets or do other work.

The firing line would have to be changed, and at this time we are concerned more with getting more fireing positions forr 50 and 100 yards than 1K.

Most of our members do not go long like LRC, Old badger and Myself, but use the shorter ranges out to 500 meters.
Even then, the 500 meter line is not used nearly as much as the 25, 50 , and 100 yard lines.

I AM working on it however, and we are trying to get cats in to work on our berms as well.
We had an issue a while back when the cointractor told us he was going to bring in a D6 and showed up with an 8, andn the float was too wide to go across the bridge!
We are installing spigots for the handrails so they can be renmoved, but that will still not get 16 wheeled floats across as the thatbridhge itself is too narrow.

The berms will be built up however, and thee 50n yrad line moved a tad so we can access more of the 100 yard line, etc.
This stuff does not happen in one weekend , and we need to get crews going on the IPSC structure and to get some new roofs on our "C" cans, as they are starting to leak!
On top of all this work I somehow have to set aside some time for a real jogb, and practice for the out of town matches I am trying to make this year, not to mention the The war Department!( she can be VERY demanding of time.....:D )
We will press on, however, and I hope all will be satisfied at year's end to not hang me but to wlecome me back for another term as President!

Well I guess then Genesee is the nearest range short of your special private range!:)

When I was shooting up there, it seemed the hand gunners seemed to dominate where the funds were being spent.....

It tends to go in cycles, depending on who the exec. is made up of and their shooting preference.
I am a bit of a departure in that I shoot almost everything, and do not caree what a person shoots. If they need tha cash and can justify it, no problem.

I do listen to everybody when making a decision however, and base my decisions on on that.

There are some issues there with the amount of rnage availability for the IPSC guys, and the safety factor remains when we have someone downrange when someone else is on the short range or arrives at an inopurtune time.
There is aslo a trapline home not too far down range that would come within the safety parameters if we were to go that route. ( already did some digging LRC, like I saoid, I'm workin' on it!:D :D )
I'm sure we will be able to get something together however, as soon a swe get the short range sorted out.

As a short term member (only 18 years), I am quite happy with the short range we have now. 500 yd is quite sufficient for sighting in and plinking. If you want to shoot further, there are lots of places where you can lie over a log on the river bank and plink away at more serious ranges. :p

Now don't flame me boys, just because I am new to this stuff and lack experience, I try to get some shooting in every year and will soon move out of the "wannabe" classification (no insult intended to the fine member who uses that handle, by the way).

I figure another 10 or so years at a coupla k rounds a year of centre fire stuff should let me move up to "semi-serious" rating. BTW, am I allowed to count the ones that missed completely? That would greatly improve my round count!

Jeepers Max, there must be SOMEONE closer to you than Ft. Mac , unless you fly that is!:D

Is Kamloops closer to you than us?
There is a long range club there.
However, if you happen to have business in this neck of the woods, come on up!
PM me and we'll take you out for sure!
