Long Range Precision shooting Fort Mcmurray

The club outside Kamloops (Heffley Creek) is north of the city on Hwy 5. You can't get past 500 m there except shooting the BP gongs.

I wonder where Paul Reibin shoots?
There must be another range somewhere?
Beavers? Oh, ya, we won't see dem anymore - at least not THOSE beavers!!
One of our members who has a registered trapping lisence will take on the responsibility near spring, keeping them under control.

As a short term member (only 18 years), I am quite happy with the short range we have now. 500 yd is quite sufficient for sighting in and plinking. If you want to shoot further, there are lots of places where you can lie over a log on the river bank and plink away at more serious ranges. :p

Now don't flame me boys, just because I am new to this stuff and lack experience, I try to get some shooting in every year and will soon move out of the "wannabe" classification (no insult intended to the fine member who uses that handle, by the way).

I figure another 10 or so years at a coupla k rounds a year of centre fire stuff should let me move up to "semi-serious" rating. BTW, am I allowed to count the ones that missed completely? That would greatly improve my round count!

The Old badger is being humble...This guy has more rifles that make you go OOOOOH than most gun shops and he has knowledge behind them!! no wanna be!!;) :)

Badger our range is one of the finest I have been to, and while you are right about the 500yrd being good for sighting in and extream long range for some, it is a bug once you've been there it's easy and got to go further. There are those of us that have our special LR spot's up here but the logistics of getting everyone that is interested in this type of shooting to location is a real bugger and you are limited to #'s you can bring...Cat with the Jet Boat in summers. And mine you have to manouver around muddy trails and muskeg in the summer, but awsome in winter..:) The whole point of building a 1000m + range is to be able to shoot further and with others interested in the sport in an envioroment that is safe, educational and enjoyable. I have been able to get the LR bug started in many people up here in the last couple of years and a few have bought and are in the process of ordering rifles. I would say I know well over a dozen that are interested in the sport and more that would dive into it if we had the facility. Not to mention the ability to host shoots for all diciplines of shooting. I believe our Area at this time has the finances to make this happen as well as the interest, it just a matter of all of us getting together and saying what's it going to take and how we going to do it. I think growth in the shooting sports is good for all of us from pelet - IPSC - Long Rang Precision.

Just an opinion

The Fort McMurray range has probably the best firing line around. Concrete benches, one with the concrete pad. Overhead covers...... Those of you guys responsible for the rifle range did a bang up job!!

Now if only the Spruce Grove range would have taken on the system. Benches that move are generally one step away from moving into the recycle area.......just not suitable for real precision shooting....

The pictures of the McMurray range are a bit dated (scanned) but they enable you to see the changes with SgtAxe's photos...

I'ver got plenty up here. It may only be -8, but I'm not complaining.

Going out of town for a few days, I imagine it will snow a damn foot before I get back.
