So I have a bit of a dilemna. I own a very high end tactical rifle chambered in 338 Lapua AI. This rifle is made from all the very best components by a very good technician. It is topped with a fantastic Nightforce scope. The rifle is a tack driver and I have no problems hitting 1 gallon milk jugs at 1000 yards on a calm day. (frozen ones are the most fun!)

I have a set of Redding competition dies and tons of Lapua brass, bullets, and powder. I am blessed with a 1300 meter rifle range right outside the back door! I can shoot off of my deck!

The dilemna is that I don't use the rifle very often. In fact I barely use it at all. Last time I fired it was back in April - May. My work schedule, family life and other interests get in the way.

I really ought to sell this rifle and components to a person that will use it. What say you?

Keep it, you're going to miss it the moment it goes out the door.

Selling

If your selling it to replace it with something more practical then sell it. If your selling it for the sake of selling it, don't!!!. You will regret it.:sniper::sniper:

p.s. - if you want to just give it away I know someone who would take it.:):)

I have far too many practical rifles as is! lol

This one is very practical. I just don't use it. In fact, I don't use any of my rifles much these days. I could replace it in the future if I so desire.

Dont do it!!!!!!

Guns are currency. If one day you need a few grand, you may resort to selling a gun :( it sucks, but somebody will buy it if you need the coin. As far as practical, hell, its fun, its not costing you a ton of monies right now (cant imagine the start up costs being fun to swallow) with reloading and everything. Honestly, may happen one day that you retire and have time to play more often. I've been out to the range 3 times all year, once to zero a friends rifle, once to shoot pistol and once to zero my hunting gun. Works been crazy. But for the love of god, unless you have a reason to sell it, its not worth it. Regret for it leaving will suck and you'll want to fill the gap in the safe again.

Don't sell unless you really have to or to fund another toy - even then you will miss the one you are letting go. I have a few pieces up for sale now as I am preparing to buy another expensive target rifle and I know that I will miss the ones I am selling as soon as they are wrapped for posting :-(

The OP's CGN handle along with the topic of this thread is just too perfect.

Don't sell unless you have to. My guns have seen more oil than lead this year, but I know it will always change.

I wish!! Now take that LAI and work diligently on breaking the 1300m world record.

It is not such a great range when the wind is howling! Perhaps I shall go out and set up a sheet of plywood and get at it. I do not have the eyes or skills for breaking any type of world record!

Keep it unless you need the cash....in 2-10 yrs our Liberal feds will start to crack down on high power rifles, particularly 50 and 338 as there is no practical reason for having one other than military purposes. It will start with a grandfather clause and go from there. That's why I'm filling my safe now!!! At least that's my excuse :)

I hunt off my back porch and shoot to a mile on my neighbour's property. There are people that would eat the corn out of my crap to have that opportunity.

If you want to sell it, then sell it. If you are looking for redemption, then give it to Drawblood for free. He needs credibility, and your gift would be put to good use.

Why did you build it in the first place if you were going to be bored of it so soon? If you indeed have "too many guns" then by all means sell it to someone who will apprecite it more.

Sounds like you've lost that loving feeling. So why not divest yourself of it while you can maximize the amount of money you can get out of it while it is still relatively new? Hey, it happens to us all, right? And like you said, you could easily replace it, so money obviously isn't an issue for you, even when you know you'll likely take a financial loss selling it.

I own many different rifles that I shoot on occasion. Some use today but will sit in the back of the safe tomorrow. I don't have the luxury of building anything that I would get bored easily with. If it were my rifle, I'd keep it until my interest re-kindled. Sure, I've bought rifles that I became disinterested in but later sold, however, custom rifles are a different game where you rarely get out of them what you put into them. I've never lost a dime on a used rifle that I bought and later resold.
