Hi, was wanting to buy a good quality scope, Leuopold, Swarovski, or Zeiss, somewhere around $1000 to spend. wanting something that i can put the turret on and dial it in for my .300 win mag, dont want the mildot scope right now, i heard the turret is great. is the turret something that you order separately from the company for the specific load?

any suggestions, comments would be great, have never had a scope like this before but plan to do some sheep and goat hunting next year and dont want to be guessing

I have a Sightron SIII 10-50x60 (target dot) and am pretty impressed with it. A little more than $1000 though.

Turrets work fine if you have the time to adjust them for each shot. I use turrets for target shooting, but I prefer scopes with multiple hash marks to compensate for various ranges on my hunting rifles, since they are much quicker to use.

If you're looking at strictly a hunting scope and you want turrets, I'd go with a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 with the Ballistic Turret system, though you'll have to spend in the neighborhood of $1700 or so. You can set up the scope according to your specific load with their online calculator. They have color coded rings which make it faster to adjust/compensate than a standard turret system.

Keep in mind you'll still need a rangefinder to determine distance regardless of which scope you buy.

long range scope

I havea Leopold 8.5x X 25x X 50mm scope some years old....a superb long range scope and Korth can change the reticle if you buy a used one..

last spring, I was is in the same situation
got and sold quite a few scopes yet
vortex viper pst is in your price range, but glass is not that good(compare to a falcon or a tasco yes for sure) I have one
so I decided to wait a little and got a premier light lactical 3-15 with illuminated gen2xr reticule
it is not like a PMII, but it is the first scope I realy like

Leupold makes custom turret with the distances marked on them. You can order them for certain models. The lowest end is the "Canadian" I believe. They have premade turrets with generic trajectories for certain cartridges, or you can provide them with the details and they will custom make one.

As others have mentioned, a bullet drop reticle is another option. A third option is turrets marked in MOA that are finger adjustable. You would build your own chart of ballistics. Maybe not a bad idea if you are shooting up hill. You could make a chart for flat and various inclines.
