Our spot is in the vicinity of Mt Deception , north side of Canim Lake. Easy to drive to but for most it would be a very long drive. It's flat as a pancake till it hits the mountain and has very clear line of sight in every direction that matters. No chance of a mishap down range. We check the targets with the ATV which saves lots of time.
I've thought about shooting across frozen lakes but there are trappers in the woods, lots of snowmobile clubs and such out riding and lots of ice fisherman find there way into back country lakes. Finding a good backstop would rely on a mountainside meeting the lake shore I guess.
That said I pack a rifle when I'm ice fishing as wolves are open all year and see them fairly often.
