The Long Range World Championships are about to begin in New Zealand. Also known as the Palma Match.
Canada has sent a Palma Team, Veterans Team and an Under 25 Team. This is long range prone shooting with iron sights out to 1000 yards. Best of luck to the Canadian Teams.
Match results can be seen at https://www.lrwc2019.nz under the heading "Results" when they become available.

Google Palma Matches are there are a few good reads. Basically the matches are shot with a .308 bolt action rifles with micrometer adjustable iron sights. No rifle rest is used and the rifle is supported by the shooter using a shooting jacket and sling. Bullet weight is limited to 156 gr, trigger weight minimum is 1.1 lbs.
Palma matches are fired at 800, 900 and 1000 yards or 700m, 800m and 900m. And the World Long Range Championships are held every 4 years. When these Championships are held there is an individual course of fire at 800, 900 and 1000 yards and there is a coached team match over the same distances.

Here is Canada we do shoot matches with iron sights from ranges of 300 yards/m out to 1000 yards/m. And the Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships are held every Aug at Connaught ranges in Ottawa. Each province also has a Provincial Rifle Association that offers the same type of shooting, and holds a provincial championships.

Canada has been sending a rifle team (besides a CF Team) to Bisley England to compete in rifle shooting competitions for over 100 years. We also send teams to the West Indies to compete in the West Indies Fullbore Championships that rotates around to the Commonwealth West Indies countries, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Antigua.

The iron sights consist of a peep rear with vernier scales for wind and elevation, so you can dial in the elevation for the distance, and then add and subtract wind for each shot, as you think necessary. The front sight is an aperture the surrounds the round black bull. It is a very accurate system.

Most of us can shoot a perfect score - except for the wind. I one made a 25 minute (about 20 feet) wind change at 1000 yards to go from bull to bull. A strong wind switched from a right wind to a left wind.

The Army Cadets train the kids to do this. We have all had a 14 year old lay down beside us and proceed to out shoot us.

The shooting looks like this:

This seems similer to TR shooting (target rifles).

At a local range they shoot TR-F out to 800m its pretty cool to watch.
I couldnt imagine using peep sights to 1000m i have a hard time seeing at 100m

It is target rifle (TR) - your Bull Meadows range goes out to 800m, but the maximum range for target rifle is 1000yds (900m). F-Class is the other sibling in fullbore shooting, using optics and a rest/bipod.

One Hell of a match! I was with the U25 Canadian team, and the Aussies were definitely a step above! Lots to learn.
