I hope this is in the right forum to post this question. I would think IPSC shooter's would have the most experience in what I am seeking.

A few months ago, I say a thread about "wording" on long term ATT's, but now I can't find it.

I want to be able to transport my restricted's anywhere in Canada, and across any Canada / USA border crossing to attend shooting matches and courses in the States and/or Canada.

It probably also wouldn't hurt to have something to cover off "borrowing" other restricted's (If you can still do that).

Can anyone help me out, re. specific wording on the application for long term ATT?

Thanks in advance.

That doesn't exist on a single form...

It would be an:

ATT (to transport from home to club)
Border crossing permit (you can get one for multiple points)
Form 6 from ATF (to get into the US)

depending on your Province, the ATT's are a bit different. Quebec is probably the most restrictive (can someone from Quebec fill in the details)

In Ontario, you can get one to go to any approved club in the Province and the ATT can be good for up to 5 years.

The western provnces are easier yet. I beleieve they have an ATT that is good for BC & Alberta (again, can one of the western guys fill in the details)

Hope this helps (or did I just confuse you 8) )

Cheers

My ATT(alberta,NWT) includes the following conditions:
(paraphrased)
transport to all approved ranges in NWT Alberta.
transport to and from approved shooting ranges
reasonable direct route
Must have PAL
transport according to transport regs
must be member of a shooting club, or guest of a member
Must have reg certs for firearms being transported
firearms can only be loaded while actively shooting
allows transport to registered gunsmith
allws trans to and from US border provided holder has proper us documentation

That is what mine says..
i can type in the exact wording if need be, but i am too tired right now....

"...across any Canada / USA border..." No such thing. The U.S. has their own rules about bringing any firearm into their country. You'd have to get the ATF Form 6, like Quigley says, to take a firearm into the States. Our bunch of twits has no authority nor right to issue a permit for a foreign country.

I should have been more specific. Yes, I know that you have to have the proper ATF paperwork for entry to the US - what I meant is "to any US / Canada border crossing". The "across" was assuming (I hate that word), one hand the proper US paperwork in hand.

So, is there a separate "Border Crossing Permit" too, on top of the regular ATT as Quigly alludes to?

Depends on your Province....in Ont yes, it's a sperate permit.

I am told that out west your long term ATT is alo good for Border Crossing and trips to the gunsmith...

It would help if you mentioned what province you are from

mine is good for all restricted and prohib's that I am allowed to possess, good for all ports of entry, good all the way upto and including Manitoba. Also all gunsmiths and all ranges, 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year (there are 52 right?) and it's good for 5 years now.
I have a secondary ATT that is good for all gunshows and exhibitions. So for example if my club has an info booth at the local mall I can go there and wear my guns (with no live ammo) around the mall. hehehe haven't done that yet though.

Same for me minus prohibs.
