Long term storage? How To?

Hi guys,

What would be the best way to store firearms for a period of 3-4yrs + without the need for a periodic cleaning and not having to worry for rust/humidity. I have a couple of firearms I would like to put away as I don't hunt with them anymore but want to keep them in good condition. Just put them in storage and forget about it. They will be stored in a basement where there could be a bit of humidity so I need something to protect against rust.

I have seen these "space" material firearms bags, they claim to protect from humidity/rust without having to clean them after storage, just put in the bag and voilà, but it last a year or 2 max, not sure for long term. Cosmoline is another avenue but a dirty job to clean afterwards, thought about putting a coat of quality wax to also protect the wood, what are you guys using for long term storage?

There must be something that would protect long term and not be a hassel to clean afterwards, don't want the need to disassemble completely to clean before using .

Just apply a good coat of gun lube to all the metal and wood surfaces. It still wouldn't hurt you to give them a wipe down every now and again. They would do it for you. Just be sure to clean all the oil off before you shoot.

I've never had to do it, but what about taking the barreled action out of the stock, putting them in a vac seal bag like the ones we use for food. Put one of those moisture absorbing bags in it and suck the air out of it. If your basement is that humid, maybe you have other issues that might get you a spot on Holmes on Homes.

Edit - being that I'm laid up with a buggered leg for a few days, I figured I might as well be of some use. I googled a few things and came up with this....from everyone's favourite gun dude.
