So I'm heading out for a three day backpacking trip into some sheep country I've been meaning to check out for a while. I ran into a guy about 2 years back on opening day who has been sheep hunting for a while - he ended up mentioning a spot with some good rams to try, but I never got around to it.

My dad wants to go backpacking for the weekend though, so I figured this would be the weekend for it.

Anybody else doing any scouting for the weekend? - only two months till the first seasons open!

How many years do you typically have to wait to get drawn for sheep? I heard it was about a 5 year wait. I put my first draw in this time so I'll be doing some scouting in the coming months!
I'll wait for another month to start scouting for monster bucks!

Depends on where you hunt, some areas can be up to ten years to get drawn

And then some areas you can just buy a trophy sheep tag and no need to worry about getting drawn at all.

Yeah, if you want to hunt them, just buy a tag and hunt them - it's tough, and it takes, on average, 7 years to get a ram - but there's no better way to learn to hunt sheep than hunting sheep.

I'm planning on putting the rubber to the road (and trail) this weekend do do some scouting too.

I am going to dunk a line and catch a few fish while I'm at it...
