I have an interesting #4 LB Mk1* built in 1945. I bought it out of a collection from a fellow who was a target shooter and had all kinds of#4's for target shooting. This one was basically untouched. I have checked it all over with a magnifying glass and all the LB markings are there on the wood and on the receiver and barrel. The receiver doesn't have an origional serial number either stamped or electropenciled on it but the C broad arrow is there. It has a 5 land barrel and as far as I can see all parts are LB except the mag. I don't think this is a made up rifle from parts from all over but somehow it was never serial numbered at the LB plant. Has anyone ever seen anything like this from LB or know if it was assembled for the DCRA? There is a seriual number on it now as it has been registered.

No number on the bolt either? I would imagine that it was assembled from parts.
I'd have left it without a serial and just applied one of the stickies.

A friend of mine who worked Mounties H.Q. told me at the commencement of the registration a lot of people put a # on rifles for this purpose. The most popular by far. F U ROCK and F U ROCK1, F U ROCK2 etc.
After this some modifications were made concerning registration long arms.
Just thought I'd throw in this historically correct message in case anyone finds one of these so marked rifles.

Hey Tiriaq,
What do you mean by stickies ?
I have a rifle that had a sticker with the serial number but during some blueing job the paint came off the sticker so now no serial number is visible.
Thanks

I've got a Long Branch with no serial also. I never received a sticker for it and the Reg Cert has a blank spot where the SN should be.

Same deal. I have several with no s/n's, couple of Cooeys and a Ross. I had to get the black stickers and stick em on. It's the FIN number on the reg cert, that's what's on the sticker. You just call em and request it, it takes about a month or two but one day- voila! :( It shows up.

Here's what it says on the card: You are required by law to put the FIN sticker on the frame or receiver of the firearm within 60 days. It is your responsiblilty, as the owner of the firearm, to ensure that the sticker is not damaged or removed. Etc etc...

EEEK!!!! Such highly politically incorrect, dangerous, subversive, illegal discussion will cause us all to lose our guns by this evening, plus get you banned for ten thousand years and three days!! :runaway::runaway:

Ok guys, thanks everyone for they answers.
I think I've found the official one, at least in my case:

(2) The holder shall advise the Registrar without delay if the sticker bearing the firearm identification number becomes detached from the firearm or is obscured or if the number on the sticker becomes illegible.

(3) When advised under subsection (2), the Registrar shall without delay issue a new sticker bearing the identification number of the firearm and the holder shall ensure that the sticker is attached to the firearm without delay on receipt.

(From Firearms Act)

But the FIN can be stamped or engraved by the owner if he wants.

7. (1) Subject to subsection (2), the holder of a registration certificate for a firearm that is subject to a condition under section 6 shall ensure that the firearm identification number is permanently and legibly stamped or engraved on a visible place on the firearm’s frame or receiver within 90 days after the issuance of the certificate.

I have two #4 rifles with no numbers. One was amde by a RCAF guy using parts from the bin intended to service 22 rifles. The 22 receiver is the same as the 303 receiver. he magnfluxed it before using it.

The other is wartime lunch box special.
