Longbranch #4 parts markings ?

I plan to shoot it as much as possible, so in one way a repro makes sense..having an orginal #4T would be fantastic, but i'd likely not have it out every range trip..

The 4T was issued the US 1907 pattern leather sling. They can be found manufactured by Hugh Carson and C/l\ marked. However, in inclement weather, the leather was not always ideal. There was an unofficial pattern made up from 2 Bren slings in the 1907 pattern.

Wow, had not heard or seen that. Any pics of it?

Was that a Canadian thing or British?

British thing. Peter Laidler covers it in his 4T booklet "An armourer's perspective" page 42. It was actually a little more than an unofficial pattern, but rather an experimental pattern with a limited production run. Easy to make using a Bren sling and an Enfield sling which you will have to cut up and shorten, along with a little stich-work with the remnants. Peter reports that is was favourably received over the leather version.

The experimental sling came about because of reports from the field that snipers were discarding the leather slings in favour of using a simple Bren sling.
