Longbranch Enfield questions.

hello all,
I recently acquired a 1943 Longbranch No 4 MK1*. I am just looking to get information on the finish and parts on it.
1. the bolt and the receiver serials match but the magazine does not. Is this common with longbranches or not? my only other MK1* is a savage which doesn't have a serialized magazine.
2. the receiver has a star stamped on top which I've read means that rust was found in the bore. depending on the amount of rust what would have been the fix? complete barrel replacement or just a bore scrubbing?
3. some of the surface area shows pitting but finish is completely intact. it looks like parkerizing but from what I've been able to find longbranches were never parked. could this be suncorite?
4. the safety spring appears to be blued and does not match the finish of the rest of the gun. would this be because the finish wouldn't stay intact on springsteel or is this a replacement.

all in all I'm looking to find out if I just traded 2 guns for an enfield that an unscrupulous salesman mixed together and refinished to make it more appealing to the uninitiated.
the obligatory pics.

out of curiosity, how can you tell it's MK2 wood?

Top shows Mk.I and bottom is your Mk.II wood.

The metal finish is not original and doesn't appear to be Suncorite from an FTR either.

Looks like a brass butt plate? If so, not original either.

Does the barrel serial number match?

I hope so, the muzzle has a bit of a cleaning rod gouge in it but not as bad as most of my rifles.
not the first time I've been duped unfortunately. I am halfway tempted to take it to the CMP rifle competition on saturday, but I haven't decided yet.
