Look at what my seating die did to a cast bullet!

Is this normal/accetable? I don't know. Dillion X650 9mm seating die has choice or round noise or flat point. I'm using round nose b/c flat nose would do someting worse. Maybe the lead is too soft (just used WW). I didn't quench them in water. But at any rate, is this accetable to see?

Thanks!

Nothing to worry about. The point doesn't matter as long as the cartridge feeds ok. Forget which one I use for similarly shaped, 121 grain, cast bullets. Never had any feeding issues with my Inglis BHP.
If those bullets aren't lubed, they should be. Won't hurt anything but accuracy though.

It's a dummy round. I'm waiting for my Xlox shipment. Hopefully next week.

When you're talking about accuracy, are you referring about no lube?

Looking foward to cast some more bullets for real tomorrow. I did these yesterday as a test. Didn't too good but good enough for first time casting.

iv run into a similar problem. i made up a new pusher for my lee seating die to combat the problem. they might sell them for different style of bullets i don't know. Its just easier for me to hit the lathe for an hour and build one

one problem with my cast lead set up still is bullet run out. haven't figured that one yet.

I wouldn't worry about it; the base of the bullet is far more important than the nose in terms of accuracy and it doesn't look like it would compromise feeding.

You can use a dab of quick setting epoxy gas tank repair to custom form your seating stem on a bullet. Look for the stuff at Can Tire. You cut off a short section and knead the two components in the piece together. Dab a bit in the stem and seat a bullet into it that has a light coat of paste wax. In about 20 minutes it's good to work with. Clean up any epoxy that has been squeezed out around the end of the stem with a fine file.I use this method a lot to form top punches for lubeing bullets and have a guy in California make me up nose punches with large cavities just for custom fitting.

Thanks for all the tips.

I think the lead is a little on the soft side. I let them air cool. I just made a new batch and qunched them. Not as bad now. Probably air cool ones would be much better after 1 week.

Sunray has it right. The nose shape really won't make a lot of difference at pistol ranges.

The base, however, has to be completely filled out and square to the axis of the bullet. Any deformation there is a serious accuracy problem.

I see! Thx.. I have a bunch that are slightly rounded at the bottom. I will cull them.
