Just got on course. We were doing our training on the C9. Haven't shot it yet. Well I did a long time ago when I was in the militia in 88. Heavy to lug around but not as bad as the c6 pig.

Meaford sucks.

Meaford sucks.

That place does suck. I remember getting a horrible sinking feeling every time the bus would make that left turn up the hill to the base - nothing but misery.

If you think that ##### is heavy now wait until you're overseas with 1000 rounds and eight liters of water on your back.

Good luck.

Seeing the C7 laid out for inspection warms the cockles of my heart. Noting like having the weekend leave passes revoked because of carbon in the in the gas tube .

On the upside, Meaford is one of the few training bases I have managed to avoid. Shilo and Wainwright is where I spend my time.

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Meaford...

Wasaga Beach within sight but untouchable in the summer...

Wind ripping at you from every direction but the south in the winter...

PT runs down (and then back up) the @#$!&@# main road any time of year...

...delightful place!

Packed a C9 around Gagetown for 10 weeks back in the day. Felt like a ton after a couple of hours on the march with defensive stores piled high on the ruck. Mind you we didn't have plates front and back to worry about.

I remember the grief of trying to keep that pig from rusting away. Some dumb schumk from a previous crse decided to take steel wool to the thing. Bare metal everywhere. I swear a record for rain was set that summer.

Fun on the range though.

Good luck on crse bud.

Cheers,

O'Kelly's Boys

Mudford, wait for the defensive positions in the clay. A pickaxe is your friend.
Winter gets bad too, lots of whiteouts, tons of snow. Better make sure to keep a good hold of the C9.

Stick it out, you picked a proud and noble profession, good luck to you.

Don't forget all the stupid tank ruts everywhere, makes patroling so much fun.

I remember doing my SQ/DP1 there and it took us a day to dig 1' into the clay. Then it rained the rest of week so our defensive position was just a deep puddle.

I spent Dec 2001-May 2002 in Meaford. I vowed never to go back, but then I went to Wainwright. I would rather spend another 6 months in Afghanistan then another 6 weeks in Wainwright.

Teapot:

Good to see you survived holding platoon and have something structured happening in front of you. And yes, a C7 laid out does bring back memories. Never had to do that with a C9.
