Lookalikes H4895 and Varget??

[.223Savage]

I just bought a pound of H4895 to try in 7.5x55 and .308 and was a bit surprised when I opened the can. It looks exactly Varget, color and shape are identical. It is the first time I have used this powder.

Since my Number 1 Rule of Reloading is: "If it doesn't look or feel right STOP!" I am zapping off this message, is there a close resemblance between these two powders?

While unlikely, I guess it is possible that a pound or two could be mislabeled.

Numerous powders look similar, if canister was factory sealed I wouldn't worry.

After I read your post, I went down the basement, opened both cans of H4895 and Varget : both look exactly the same to the eye looking down into the can.
Like Marco said, it it was sealed use it.

The two powders have very similar loads in 223 and 308 as well. So with a conservative starting load, even if someone switched them, there would be no safety concern.

Both are made by ADI in Australia, have a look at some ADI manuf'd H4350, to really get your head spinning.
