Hey all,

I'm looking to get enough 12.ga 00 buck lead shot to do up 2k shells.

Can anyne refer me to a supplier who can accomidate?

I tried Canadian BDX web site but they dont appear to do "shot" and the walk in hunting stores in my area are just not able to sell that much in those little bags...

Cheers

Can always take some time and pour your own, will only need 14000 or so of them :)

You got a huge zombie problem or something?

"...only need..." 36,000 if it's a 3.5". Shipping costs for shot will hurt. Shooter's Choice in Waterloo, Ont., wants $33.95 per 5 pound bag of Hornady 00 Buck. They say they keep it in stock.
"...stores in my area..." They can order it. Be prepared to pay up front.
Buckshot is useless past 30 yards and not reliable under that, for the most part.

Thanks Matty, I will check it out..

Nonus.... Yes.... I do have a Zombie problem... but im working on it.

Some of the local 'bullet casting' companies might be able to help you out... in most case they have a 'minimum' order qty for a new bullet... but you should be able to meet that!

Personnally, I'd much rather reload slugs... counting pellets will be time consuming...

Sand road, do you recal the price?

I found another source online, Precision Reloading. US$53 per 25 lb.

Up until 5 or 6 years ago Precision used to be located in Connecticut and I used to purchace from them when we would go and visit relatives. That was before all the US export restrictions.

I don't know if lead shot is on the ITAR Controlled export list.

"...local 'bullet casting' companies..." Buck shot isn't normally cast. It's formed just like any other shot size. Dropped while molten through a screen into water. A local casting company might have a shot tower if they're big enough though.

Hey,

I just got into reloading, and I get my shot from Hummason Manufacturing Co.

Buckshot is normally swagged from wire or cast, it doesn't cool fast enough dropping from a shot tower and so is difficult to get nice round pellets.

Because the large mass of lead in the drop doesn't cool quickly, (for larger pellets, the mass increases faster than surface area therefore it can't get rid of heat as quickly) wind pressure begins to overcome surface tension, deforming the pellets as they are dropping/cooling.

Sure you can make them from a drop tower, just not very nice pellets with a lot of rejects.

casting buck shot

I prefer to cast my buck shot, even though it is time-consuming the results are far better. I find that accuracy is almost double due to the hardness of the pellets vs. standard lead buck shot.
In the first picture I used 9 31 cal (in between 1 and 0 buck) nested in a normal 1 1/8 oz shotgun wad. Weighing in at 395 grains - each pellet averages about 44 grains - (just over 7/8 oz) with 20 grains 700X has a velocity of 1300 fps. Nice and easy to load, excellent for your milk jug, fridge door, neurotic squirrel :p etc shooting requirements.

These are 33 cal (00 buck). Cut the petals off any standard plastic wad (or use a bps gas seal and a couple of 12 ga felt wads) and load as usual. These weigh in at a total of 475 grains - each pellet averages about 53 grains -, just under 1 1/8 oz. I like to use long shot powder with this load and you can get them going up to 1500 fps if you choose to go that fast.

Because of the hardness of these pellets I don't have to screw around with using buffer which is a PITA, accuracy is excellent and as far as costs are concerned 4 cents for a primer, 1 1/2 cents for a wad, and whatever 20 to 35 grains of powder will set you back. In my case the loads I like cost me about 15 cents a piece.
I haven't hunted with any of these so I can't vouch for this application but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
