Hey,
I am looking at buying a lightly used shotgun... but I am debating what to buy? If you had the desision between a Browning Silver, Maxus, winchester SX3, or remington 11-87, what would you choose?
It will mainly be for ducks, a few clays and a few rabbits. camo and a 3.5 inch chamber anrn't nessesary.
thank you

I've been going through the same debate myself. Had nothing but good things to say about my Browning Gold, so I'm going with the new Maxus 3". Silver's are really good too, but I prefer a flatter shooting gun like the Maxus. The Silver and SX3 have the same raised rib and it always throws me off a bit. The Remington would be my last pick.

All pretty much the same gun except for the 1187. SX3 if you like space age styling. Silver if you want a more traditional one (I use a silver for most of my ducking), maxus is you want all browning goodies, speedfeed, a bit of a game scene (dont' know what that looks like in real life).

Good. Mine is 3", sometimes there's problem with cheap winny shells (I think it's the white box), but not with half decent target loads from all brands.

Silver first, Maxus second, Winchester if you don't need or want the speed feed feature.

Remington if want to spend quality time with a gun smith and your life is somehow lacking unless you talk to Western Gun Parts at least once a month.

how is the silver with a 3" chamber at cycling 2 3/4 target loads with a 3 dram? my 1100 won't...

My brother uses a 3 1/2" chamber silver hunter, and one of my friends has a 3 1/2" SX3. Both guns have the same action, and they both had some issues cycling light loads (3 drams, 1 1/8 oz shot), mainly Winchester super-target
and Remington gun club shells. Just remember to keep your gas ports extra clean.

Brought a Maxus Stalker 3" home this morning myself. Really nice gun, lot of features. Went with the 3" because I never bother with 3 1/2" shells (don't need them for pheasant or ducks over decoys), and wanted better reliability with light target loads. Always had great luck with my Golds, so this Maxus should be a step above them.

You don't need 3 1/2 loads for anything really - we got nearly 1000 geese last season, plus ducks and snows - I shoot 3" as often if not more than the 3.5, and I have yet to see steel loads perform better from 3.5 than from 3".

The Gold, Maxus, SX2, SX3, and Silver are all based on the same gas system, with the same gas piston. I've owned or shot all 4 quite a bit, and I've owned the old 11-87 Premier 3". After installing a Sure Cycle and having Jeff Hajjar customize my piston for my SX2, I must say I'm sorry I didn'T get those things done to the old Remington - that gun simply would not rust - but it also wouldn't cycle well. I wouldn't put the 11-87 in the same sentence with the Browning/Winchester.

I have just upgraded from the SX2 to the 3 for the fit option. I had a Maxus briefly last fall - the speedload was hit and miss on mine, and my hunting partner's did cycle light loads well. He also sold his and went back to a SX3. I would suggest the 3" SX3 with the walnut finish - very sharp lookin gun - or go with the Patrick Flanigan model wiht the red accents - cool lookin. I havr the Grey Shadow finish on mine.

Good luck.
