Looking at buying a 9mm

You can't be wrong with this ;)

I had the privilege of shooting all three of your choices, which all shot very well, and I decided on the CZ 75B for several reasons (of course this was before the Shadow was released):

1. It fits my my medium-sized hand well, but I subsequently changed to rubber grips which fit even better

2. It is made of steel and heavy enough for me to hold on target better which helps with felt recoil

3. It has a very good factory and aftermarket parts supply with many support networks, forums and Canadian suppliers

4. It is on the IPSC approved list and is shot by some very winning competitors, so there must be something there...

5. It has a very nice .22LR conversion kit that also works with your competition rig without modification

YMMV

I started off with a CZ-75-SP-01 Phantom (polymer frame) and liked it, but there was a problem... seems when I pulled the trigger on a double action shoot, the hammer would #### to the back and then snap forward to the half-#### position, not stricking the firing pin. It seemed to be a problem particular to me, as I apparently hold the pistol a little higher than most I guess and was pulling back on the top of the trigger. It shouldn't have been doing that, so I traded it in to my local gun shop on the understanding they would send it back to CZ on a warranty fix (note: the pistol was perfect except for this issue, almost a thousand rounds with no failures as long as it was fired on single action). I had fired the range's STI GP6 (read: redistributed slovac K-100 Grand Power mk.6) and was impressed with the ease of control and recoil, etc., so I purchased it and was handed a sales model. There appeared to be a problem with the slide release, it took a lot of pressure to release the slide (probably a bur on the metal or something) so I was given another sales model before the pistol was registered. Everything seemed fine on that one and I finally got around to shooting it, but after loading the first magazine and before putting a round down range, I noted that the mag wouldn't seat in the well and that if I pushed it in hard enough (and I mean hard) I could only release it by putting a LOT of pressure on the mag release. I figure the release/catch for the mag wasn't machined into exactly the right spot so the mag was needing to go in too far to barely get hooked by the catch. Whatever the case, the store took the gun back, as it hadn't been fired, and will send them back. After two cases of mechanical issues with the GP6, I decided to try the range gun one last time. I could barely rack the slide due to the built up grime impreding the rotating barrel action. The range officer told me the gun had only had about 1000 round through. I cleaned it and fired it, and it shoots very well (very little muzzel climb on the GP6) but it apparently needs to be kept clean. Put a 1000 rounds through it and it may start failing. I decided against buying it after all and went back to a CZ SP-01, this time the metal Shadow. It's a great target gun with a good trigger. They've apparently removed the firing pin safety on this particular model to make the trigger smoother and it comes standard with fiber-optic sights. It's a great target pistol and has been used to win by some good shooters. Not the greatest fighting pistol though, due to it's weight (a bit more than a standard 1911) and light trigger (stressful situations make you jittery), a glock or possibly a S&W M&P (which I've yet to try) might be better suited to that task.
Good luck.
