looking at getting in to 3 gun

I do not have a gun yet was only looking at the SL-8 because I can take it up in the woods behind my house and shoot the gong. not so much with a 15. I was just looking for options for something maybe not restricted

The Remington Versamax is a great option for its reliability, capacity and fast shooting with low recoil. Here in Canada I can legally starts match 9 rounds 7 in the tube 1 on the lifter, and 1 in the chamber(if permitted). I'm 1911 guy but starting off with 9mm makes more sense.
For a rifle the AR15 platform dominates completion due to its superior ergonomics, reliability, and light weight. Yes being restricted sucks but if your training with your pistol your going to be at the range anyway.

I shot a match with a friend's handgun last summer and I'm hooked on 3-gun - plan on shooting a bunch over this summer when my tax return comes and I pick up my own handgun.

Right now I'm running an AR I built, 18" heavy barrel, and a Bushnell AR .223 1-4x. The shotgun is a Remington 870 Tactical with a 7+1 capacity, 18" barrel, and a Bushnell TRS-25.

Deciding on a Glock 17 or M&P Pro 9...both have their advantages. The M&P feels better in my hand, but the Glock has better accessories and support. Really not sure. Probably will depend on what I can find on the EE for under $600.
