cheap hear they shoot good, in the caliber i want (would like it if they would come in stainless though)

anyone have one of these? what do you think? can you run some hot loads through it??

cheers

I just picked one of these up in 45-70.Takes both hands to pull the trigger and the barrel has some 'tool marks' or oddities. I haven't shot it other than a test fire out the back door. Funtions good, easy extraction of cases loaded for my rolling block. I got it for the cabin, seems some pigs are leaving garbage around when they go home after the weekend and bears are around even in the daytime now. Mark

I was considering buying an older one from a guy, till I fired it. OUCH, factory loads left a bruise like never before. A good recoil pad is a must. I would still have bought it had it not been for the ugly bore, he'd fire black powder rounds and never cleaned it!!!

My brother has had one for eons - like maybe 10 or 15 years. He has run some real warm loads through it, and it shoots pretty good. It do kick, however! I think he took a moose with it at around 40-50 yards. Hit it in the head, and the 350 grain softpoint blew the head up like a 22 hollowpoint on a partridge. He loves it, but he says you gotta hang on to it if you load it stiff.

He alos said, "If they didn't want you to put that much powder in the case, why on earth did they make the case so big?" He also has a contender barrel in 45-70, and THAT is a real experience you need to have.

Does Ruger make an 8 pound #1 in 45-70, and if so, where can I get one? That is the ticket in 45-70. Makes it into a 458 Winchester Lite Magnum. And a ton of fun with cast bullets. :)
