As the title says I am looking for load data/recommendations for a 270 Weatherby Mag.

About 30 years ago my grandfather gave me a Huquavarna rifle re-chambered to 270 Weatherby Mag.

I shot my first deer with it and many after that then about 20 years ago he asked for it back and he gave me a 308 Norma Mag in exchange.

About 2-3 years ago now he gave the 270 back to me again along with 120 new Weatherby un-primed brass and 80 Weatherby factory rounds, other than a few trips to the rifle range to sight in a scope it has sat in the safe.

I'm now down to 39 rounds and want to now pass this rifle down to my 23 year old son so bought RCBS dies and a box of 140gr Barnes TSX bullets. I figured one bullet for everything which is why I want to try the TSX out.

So with all this said any reload data that anyone cares to pass on will be totally appreciated.

Also I am not closed minded to trying other bullets so any suggestions/thoughts would be great.

Thanks

Ha ha. Small world I've got the same. Commercial Husqy with a Weatherby barrel on it actually..

Sorry I haven't loaded tsx's in it yet Camp Cook. I have loaded tsx's in other cartridges though and IIRC there's usually instructions inside the box that say to use jacketed bullet data for the same weights with the possibility of exceding that by a wee bit. Work up slow of course..

I'll follow this though and hopefully someone with real world experience will chime in. 140 tsx in this cartridge would be about perfect I figure

Well I guess every so often a fellow just lucks out on load developement... :)

I threw a load together last night of 70grs RL 22 with the 140gr Barnes TSX bullets.

I did 5 @ 3.3474" COAL and another 5 with the bullets seated a little deeper @ 3.2370" COAL both hit to the same point of aim but with an average velocity of 3280fps for the longer load and a velocity drop of about 40-50fps for the deeper seated bullets.

Here is the great part after a couple of sight in shots @ 50 yards I switched over to my 100 yard target and did a 3/4" 4 shot group @ 100 yards. The shots didn't hit to point of aim they hit high left so after the group I changed scope setting and procedded to put 2 shots into the same hole but in another location on the target.

Then I ran out of bullets so I packed up this rifle and started working on my 308 Norma Mag...

Ya have to love it when a load comes together like this one did...:D

When I got home this afternoon I threw another 20 together rounds together and will finish sighting in the next time I get to the range...
