I am wanting to load those 7.62x39 pull downs that a few of the site sponsors are selling. The issue is I can't find any load data using IMR 3031.

Can someone let me know how much powder I should start with so that I do not blow up? Not looking for maximum performance, just plinking.

Am I better off just buying powder that I can find data for?

According to my Lyman reloading book, 125 gr. jacketed SP ammo shows a start load of 38.5 gr. (2305 fps.) up to 42.8 (2720 fps.) so if you stay up and/or down in the mid range, you should be OK. Let us know how you make out.

Any chance you have h4895 that would be an awesome powder for them. Imr3031 might not like the light bullet, could still shoot well but dirty.

Hodgdon relaoding online-

150gr jacketed 2.995" oal
Max, no start listed ( so it probably wants to be at max)
Grains41.0
Velocity (ft/s)2,632
Pressure46,100 PSI

180gr jacketed 3.075" oal
Max, no start load listed
Grains38.3
Velocity (ft/s)2,341
Pressure46,500 PSI

I my self, who uses imr3031 in a few different cases, 303 being one of them would try 40gr to start and work up with a 124gr bullet

Thanks I plan on making a post about. Going to compare to the hornady interlocks. Might be a while though, life is happening so I can probably do some reloading but not much shooting

I just have the one powder. I picked 3031 because I only reload 303 and 30-06 and would prefer to have one powder that I am familiar with for simplicity reasons. 3031 also seems to be an all around powder but I am still new at this stuff.

3031 is an excellent choice for those 125 gr bullets. But if you are going to load for 3006, the better compromise would be to use 4895.

If it was me, I would buy 4895 for the 3006 and Dominion 4198 for the 125s. 4198 would be cheaper and perfect for plinkers

I'm using D4198 with the 123gr pulldowns too.
32gr gets me about 2400fps in the .303.
Fairly accurate with the odd flyer (1 in 5 seems to get thrown out of the cloverleaf at 50yds)
