Looking for 338 Lapua in semi-auto

I like the looks of the Cobb MCR, which is readily adaptable to a number of calibers between 9mm and 338 Lapua. I assume that your desire to discharge 338 Lapua ammo in a semi-auto fashion suggests that "ridiculously expensive" is not out of your price range. The MSRP for the 338 Cobb MCR is $4000 USD according to their site:

http://www. cobb50.com/mcr.htm

I expect it would, though, be restricted as an AR-15 variant if that is a concern.

Give Barrett a shout. They were working on a Lapua. Not sure how far along it is.

Being a non BMG cartridge or cal, it may very well get through US commerce.

Would still be pretty pricey but horsepower costs $$$$

MCR-400 by COBB Manufacturing, tried that one already. Even contacted the manufacturer, that's when I found that COBB now distributes all their equipment through a distributor called "RSR" and they have 5 main depot's around USA. Unfortunately their State laws prohibit the export of these rifles outside the US due to their range, power and accuracy. This was the rifle that I was going to get until I received that info. COBB is no go in Canada and you're correct the cost is $4000 USD.

Barett is pretty much in the same boat regarding export, but for different reasons, their main focus is supplying the Forces on deployment.

COBB has the exact style nad configuration that I was looking for.

Thanks for your info.

Are you sure that these restrictions are not based on the readiness with which these rifles can be converted to .50 BMG, and the federal laws that prohibit export of that? I had read that the Barret rifles in large magnum calibers were just a couple of part swaps away from being a .50 BMG. One article I read about the Cobb MCR suggested that .50 BMG would be an option for it as well.

If it is not in fact the federal law prohibiting export of these, and they can be sold in other states, I would imagine that one could be shipped to a dealer in a state that can export it, and Questar could help with the importation.

Failing that, look at the receiver ... it looks like a very small and fairly simple piece. If you REALLY, REALLY wanted it, I bet you could have one whipped up on a CNC mill here in Canada. You'd just have to find a blueprint, or have someone who owns one take the measurements for you.

Where there's a will, there's a weapon! ;) :D

The State Dept just keeps getting more anal about anything that is or may be supplied to their military forces. Almost everything produced by Barrett is subject to the "military use" clause.
I read somewhere that Walther is either producing or thinking about making a repro of their WA2000 in 338 Lapua, but they will not be cheap, last WA2000 I saw was listed at over $10K USD.

I tried to get an Armalite AR30 but the folks at Armalite told me they could not get an export permit for this rifle due to State dept rules.
Sorry, John at Wolverine, I did believe you, just had to hear directly from the source so as not to direct my anger your way.
