looking for 45 bullets

ok, so heres my question, i`m looking at various site sponsors, and in books, and some say .452 and others say .451, so in reloading 45 acp, which one is it?..or are both compatible??
 
.451 is for 45 acp.... .452 is usually for 45 Colt and shouldn't be used UNLESS you have an over sized bore and have carefully worked up a load for it.
 
so cast would be safe in .452, and jacketed .451?..or just safer to stay with .451 , as i dont know what i`m going to have available bullet wise in my area
 
UNLESS you have slugged your bore....use .451 ONLY in a 45 acp. I have and reload both calibres regularly and would NOT interchange them. Bullet shape as well will have a MAJOR effect on whether the round you make will chamber in your gun. Some 45 Colt ( also known as long colt...not right...but...) bullets will be far to long to seat within the case properly without compressing your powder charge which could lead to a blown up gun or worse..... Most 45 COLT projectiles will be in the 250 gn and up to 300 gn area, where as 45 acp you usually find 185 200 and 230 gn as most common. Some die sets will squeeze a SOFT lead bullet enough so that it will pass through the bore, but I wouldn't chance it with any of my own stuff! IT wont matter a whole lot between lead or jacketed.....some loads and combos work better than others. I am currently loading a 200 gn lead SWC in my 45 ACP's with a large mag primer ( all that was available for 2 years round here) and 5.3 gn of Winchester 231. Accurate with mild recoil, but can be a little smokey on the indoor range compared to jacketed. My 45 colt loadings....well, I get a bit of leading with hot loads of 255 gn lead RN and 7gn of 231 with mag primer after about 30 to 40 rounds, but, closely duplicates the old factory load and is literally a blast too shoot. I'm using .452 hard cast and it is beautiful in a P220 Elite! (Missouri bullet company from Budget Shooter Supply)
