Looking for 500 yard range in Eastern Ontario

I belong to EOHC which covers me to 200 yards and for my purposes that's generally enough. I've taken deer to a bit over 300 yards but I'm relying on ballistics tables since I've never practiced at that range.

Now I've got a new rifle that I'm planning on putting a fancy BC scope on and I'd like to actually test it out at a range beyond what I'm likely to ever pull the trigger on an animal at. 500 yards would be awesome but I'll take what I can get.

Appreciate any suggestions of ranges in this part of the country that I can get a day pass for.

Not to put a damper on your hopes for 500 yds east of Connaught...but I've been inquiring and actually going up to the home of a couple of folks that I heard had some 'personal' space that they were using 'out back', with no luck so far.

There are shooters around here ( Alexandria ) who have over 1000yds available to them but aren't keen to have a crowd...if you know what I mean.

I have been driving to Stittsville from Alexandria, 1+20hr each way...stopped in Connaught twice but no one showed up on the Sundays that I went by...and it is getting expensive with the gas prices lately.

Might be cheaper to buy some more land rather than pay for the darn gas and 3 hrs driving :sniper:

Sunday mornings are for TR and F-Class, most often at 900M. But that won't start again until April at the earliest.

Service rifle is on Saturday mornings, and I believe it goes on throughout the winter. The distance varies from 100M to 500M depending on the weekend of the month.

But you would have to be invited unless you're a member of the NCRRA. Why not join?

I have spoken to Serge ( Bissonette ) at least twice, in the autumn trying to organize a time when I could go by the range but both times I went by there was a problem getting a volunteer range officer. Alain Marieaux (sp?) was supposed to come by on one weekend, spoke to Bill Molnar as well...seems the general concencus was wait till the new year and join then as opposed to a partial 2010 membership. Also not sure how my status as CanForce Reserve (Ret) would help with the military portion of the whole thing. Seems to shoot at Connaught you need to sign up to at least 2 different organizations. NCRRA as well as the military portion.

Just waiting my turn to fill in the forms :popCorn:

The NDHQRA is a parallel organisation to the NCRRA. Bill Molnar is president of both. I think that, if you're retired, then the NCRRA would be it for you. Only serving members of themilitary or the RCMP can join.

You don't have to be a member of the NDHQRA to be able to shoot at Connaught. NCRRA gives you that privilege. Also, other Provincial Rifle Association members under the DCRA umbrella shoot at Connaught, as do NCRRA members shoot at PRA clubs located at other military facilities.

It can tend to be a bit of an ordeal at times to connect with NCRRA/NDHQRA. Keep trying because once you connect it is one of the best ranges/clubs in the world. It is not a big secret just too many doing too few jobs, you will be very welcome!

Yeah, I would think the Milcun facility would be great, but would need an invite from Keith or Linda. I haven't been there yet, but I spent almost every single week-end at his house in Northern Ontario as his son was one of my best friends. And Keith was nothing short of excellent to me while I was there. Of course, there was no shooting, but I did learn a lot from talking to him, and he has some awesome Vietnam stories, and that photo album was incredible. Check them out at milcun.com
