Anyone have any thoughts on it? I've read good reviews online, and it's in my price range. Assuming the general response is yes, does anyone have any suggestions on where to get it? My local store, the Gun Center, has it for around 425 or 445.

If the consensus is no, what are other pistols I should look at?

Thanks in advance for the input.

EDIT: how embarrassing, wrong forum. Mods, please move.

I don't claim to be an expert on firearms, however a couple months ago i too was looking at getting a gsg 1911 .22. However everywhere i looked i came across problems with this gun, if it wasn't one thing it was another. Simply type in google "gsg 1911 .22 problems" and you'll see what im talking about.

Not sure if there is a quick / easy fix for all thes these problems, but i figured after nearly spending 500$ i shouldn't have to waste my time trying to fix something that should work out of the box.

In the end i ended up getting a m&p 22. A bit more pricey but i get to spend time shooting it, instead of trying to fix it.

I've owned a GSG 1911 for a few months now with no problems at all. I've put around 3500 rounds through it too. I'm not sure where the poster above found it for $500, but I got mine for $320 at a local store. All the problems that the gun had, have been solved with version 2 of the gun. Mine has never been picky with ammo. I've had a few FTE per hundred rounds when using non-Highvelocity ammo, and rarely ever with HV ammo. When you buy it you can confirm its the 2nd version by looking for a 2 on the magazine, or on the inside of the slide. If you google this, you'll find pictures of the exact locations. Chances are though, if you buy one it will be V2.

awesome gun for the price.

oh and the sig 1911 .22lr is exactly the same as the gsg 1911, but usually more expsenive. not sure about it comming with an extra mag, or if that was just a deal he got..

Like Secular said, you'll want to use good and consistent High Velocity ammo with the GSG. There's a lot of slide to move around. I bought mine from Blueline. Mine appears to be a Gen 1 but it looks like Blueline went in and swapped the guide rod and the buffer. I've put around 2000 rds through mine without any problems.

The things that do annoy me about the GSG is the sights and the crappy finish. The painted finish has no durability at all. I rotated through all of the front sights and I was still shooting really high. I bought the Dlask sights and the adjustable rear ones made it better but not perfect. I don't feel as if it is as consistent/accurate as my friends Buckmarks either.

That being said, I'm reasonably happy with my GSG and I have no plans on getting rid of mine anytime soon.

GSG 1911 is a good choice. I had to replace a buffer after 500rds. I think this has been remedied for V2. My GSG a year and a half ago was only $379... looks like they went up in price.

Nobody ever mentions the Sig 226 .22 which is a great gun, but is more expensive. Then you can step up to a caliber exchange kit in 9/357sig/40 with the same frame. Extremely reliable 22. It is a more expensive option, $549 at Cabelas.

My GSG is rock solid. A $300~ dollar gun that's as reliable and fun as the one I have. Sure the finish is crap, and there's a bit of peening from the slide release, but for the $$ I can live with that. Mine eats bulk blazer flawlessly. I can't see ever considering to sell it. It's one of my all time favs.

Thanks,
Cal.

I suggest a browning buckmark or rugar mk III instead for basic target practice and plinking around with. These platforms were engineered especially for the .22 caliber round, and they're extremely popular.

+1 for armco and their tuned gsg.... Over 6000rounds so far, and still my favorite 1911 plinker, ( sorry, trainer) love it....

Meh...my GSG has been a pain since I bought it.Basically a single shot with most ammo. After sanding down the inside of the frame where it rubbed on the slide, lapping the slide with valve lapping compound and then polishing it's finally down to one or two failures to feed per 50 rds.Now the trigger is starting to wear on the mags and feels like ####.These things seem to be hit or miss. You either get a good one or a bad one.

GSG Blue Line

I really like my GSG, alway in the range bag when out shooting. It's over 2000 rounds now no feeding problems or FTE's that stand out. The recoil buffer is still holding up!
My Guide rod just broke after 2000 rounds, Blue Line is replacing it for FREE! Even though I didn't buy the gun from them. I'm thinking about a second GSG and buying it from Blue Line. Why not have 2?
I just ordered a Stainless Steel guide rod for the GSG from Armco. That item won't break.
This is a fun little gun to shoot. I shoot it all winter, I don't want to loose my 40 brass in the snow.
Highly recommended by me, but what do I know : )

After all the input, and lots more research, I'm going with the GSG. Hopefully will pick it up at the end of the month. Seems like most of the issues people have had were with the Gen 1 of this gun, and the problems were fixed with the Gen 2.

Another happy GSG owner here, can feed mine even subsonics all day with no problem, any upgrades I did were just because I like to tinker not because I was having problems.
