Hi all, just picked up a handi in 357 and would like to get the chamber reamed to accept 357 max. I researched it on GBO forum and they even have a reamer rental program but won't ship to Canada. I would rather not have to buy the reamer but would be happy to rent one.

Any nuts out there willing to help me out with a rental? Any business in Canada that offers this service? Thanks for any help.

You can get near 357 MAX velocities out of a Handi Rifle by loading long and using a slower powder.

Alternatively you can try to get some 360 Dan Wession brass. This chambers in a handi rifle and is somewhere in length between a 357 mag and a 357 MAX.
The 360 DW loadings have about the same pressure as the 357 magnum. 357 MAX loadings are at a much higher pressure.

If you want to go this route and find a source of 360 DW brass, contact me if you want to split the cost of the order. I'm on the lower Island.

I heard that the chambers are loong with some people even reporting being able to use max brass without reaming the chamber! The trick is to find brass to check if this is the case for my rifle...

They are long. I get 1.945 to the lands with 158 JSP.

In my handi, Max brass is about 0.150 too long to fit. The 360 DW brass fits just fine.
357 MAG; 1.275 to 1.285 Case length
360 DW: 1.410 to 1.420
357 MAX: 1.605

I have been loading long to 1.75 loa (using 357 MAG cases). Get a bit tighter groups than normal 357 mag @ 1.58 loa. Closer to the lands I think. Also, at 1.75 loa they don't fit my 357 revolvers so I don't have to worry about mix ups if I load them hot. I'd love to get some 360 DW brass, the handi seems to be made for it, but Bullet Barn's minimum order is 250 pcs.

I would skip this idea, at least for now.

357 MAXIMUM and 360 Dan Wesson brass is not available anywhere in Canada. It is scarce in the US even if you want to risk trying to bring it in. Indications are that it maybe at least a year or probably longer before anyone even produces it.

Stick with the cambering of your Handi Rifle as is.

I have 1000 pcs of the 360DW ordered for my 1910 self loader conversion .Starline is making a run and are shipping at the end of this month (april 2015) if that helps
Cheers Peter
