im looking for a canadian source for 1095 spring steel, .025 to .065 thick .100 to .300 wide at least 12 inches long, if you have a source other than brownells or wolfs please let me know, best regards terry.
I've used recoil springs from a scrap lawn mower engine as a source for spring steel to make some flat springs. The piece I've got in my scrap drawer is a bit too small for your needs though .020"x.25"
You can also make springs out of some types of steel shim stock. I've done this too. I can't remember the brand of the stuff I used - I found some in the shop and it was probably 20 or 30 years old.
On page 738 of the KBC catalogue ( http://www.kbctools.com/can/main.cfm ) they've got some that I think would work for you. The blue tempered spring steel shim. I thought I've seen it in thinner strips before in a roll, but I don't see any in the catalogue. I cut the stuff I used on a shear - though it's pretty hard stuff. I think I softened it up afterwards to bend it on the brake and then hardened it up again. Good luck.
EDITED TO ADD - I just looked at the catalogue again and on page 740 - the Feeler Gage Stock would also work. I'm pretty sure it's spring steel as well - though you may want to confirm that. It comes in thicknesses up to .034" and is in strips of .5"x12" which might be more useful for you.
