Looking for a fun .22 for a first time buyer!

Hiya gang, let me first introduce myself. I'm Daniel from the lower mainland in B.C. and am looking to buy my first handgun and head to the range. I'm looking for something in a .22 to start so that I can afford to spend a lot of rounds while I'm enjoying my new found hobby. I was looking at the mosquito and wondering if anybody had tried it before. ( Sig mosquito)
If anybody has any info on what would be fun and reliable, as a first time buyer it would be appreciated!

Ruger mkI, II, III or 22/45 just take your pick of barrel length. Sleek, ###y, accurate, and not horribly expensive.

I wouldent get a neos.
 
YUP, go for the RUGER chances are you will keep it once you have a safe full of other pistlos.

S&W 41 is a great shooter as well but tends to be more sensitive to ammo and cleaning.

There have been some pretty good write ups on the Mosquito and the Walther P22 here recently try the search or check down a couple pages.

Buy a Glock 17 or 22 and then purchase a Advantage Arms 22lr conversion kit for it...

Now that is fun in a gun... :)

If you have a "hankering" for SIG Mosquito, don't be afraid to pick one up. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them. I'm very happy with mine. Don't believe all the negative hype and mudslinging around this gun. It's a great "fun gun", perfect for the kind of shooting you describe. My girlfriend and I have a Ruger 22/45 as well, and it is good too - more accurate and all that - and I've shot a fair bit of .22LR revolver, also fun and also more accurate than a Mosquito or a P22, but the Mosquito and the P22 are plenty accurate for most people, and I get more "fun" per day at the range out of those guns than just about anything else. I really can't recomend them highly enough.
 
I don't like the P22. Grip size is comparable to a Glock 26, which is way too small for comfortable shooting.

Ruger MkII all the way...
 
I bought a .45 Norc Commander, and then bought the Kimber .22 Conversion for it and it's absolutley awsome. Doing it this way, you still end up paying less then what you would pay for a dedicated Kimber .22 Pistol and still have the option to shoot the heavier stuff like .45 ACP if you so have the urge. Definatly best bang for the buck. I recommend this set up to absolutely everyone who are just getting into shooting. People can cry and cry all they want about Norincos but fact is I've never had a problem nor has anyone i know who's done this and you will not find a lower priced solution. I know that getting a dedicated .22 pistol like a Ruger would be a bit less expensive but they don't give you the option to fire some bigger rounds through them, and trust me, the urge will come :evil:

A guy at my range and I have the NP-22, Norc's 1911 9mm. And he was wondering if the conversion kit would still fit and function on the 9mm model. It seems to fit well, although we didn't try shooting it because at the time i had just bought the conversion kit and wasn't in the mood to experiment with it lol. Does anybody know are have that configuration running?

Try a Browning Buckmark.

Plenty of models to choose from if you're going to buy new. You should be able to find reasonably good prices on used Buckmarks if you're patient.

Personally I have a BM Target 5.5, and S&W M41. Both shoot equally well, with the M-41 being slightly more accurate IMO. The BM shoots pretty well any ammo, the M-41 needs std velocity rounds.

I started with a P-22 as a learner gun, and moved up from there. It was an OK gun, but I got tired of it. Haven't tried a Ruger, but as noted in several posts, there's plenty of interest in them.

With the wide selection of .22 lr handguns, try as many as you can get your hands on. Go with one that fits your hand best.

Do you have any more info on where these are available? The Kimber webpage has very little info.

This sounds like a great idea to me. You are going to end up spending almost double what you would buying a .22LR pistol, but you do get two guns :D

Did you order yours straight across the border? Or did you buy it in Canada? Any chance that someone in Canada actually stocks these?

Says: "Conversion units will fit compact models, but the magazine will protrude slightly below the grip." How does it look with a Commander?

Notice how this also says: "Kimber strongly recommends using only premium ammunition with plated bullets. Non-plated lead bullets may cause failures." It's the same all-round, boys.
 
The Kimber Conversion kits are avialable in Canada :D I got mine from S.I.R. locally. But i do know that The Shooting Edge carried them. Just clic on their banner at the top of the page. As for getting a 1911 lower frame, Getting a Norinco from Marstar or Armco is an option or just look in the EE forums here and you'll find one for cheap. I know you will absolutely love it :D

*** I only use CCI Stingers, They work so well that i hafvent even bothered to try something else. As fast as you can pull the trigger BANG BANG BANG... no problems ever!. I hope you end up getting it. You gotta let me know if you do and how well it works out for you.

I have tried them all, from the ruger mkII and III, to the Kimber conversion, Ruger .22 revolver, S&W 22A, and the P22......
My fav is the P22.....
It is definately too small for my hand, i bought it for the kids even owning the S&W and Ruger MkIII, and it's the funnest, coolest shooting pistol of the bunch.....
It's a bit pricey to buy new, but i'm guessing, it's cause after a few bugs on the first issues of the P22, and they have been resolved, and it's the funnest shooting ,22 i've played with.....
It is not as accurate as some, so if you are refining your skills for target shooting, choose elsewhere...... prob Ruger or High Standard, or Browning....
