Hey guys and gals first off merry Christmas to everyone, secondly I’m looking for a good place to get some work done on a firearm. I have a Winchester model 250, .22lr and it’s in need of some tlc. It was my dads gun that was left to me and now I would like to have it redone. I would like to see it basically back to brand new condition. It would need to have the bluing and wood redone and maybe some internal work done. Although it shoots and cycles fine. I am located in between London and Windsor and am just wondering what my best bet would be? Would I be better off to ship it to someone to have it redone or try and find someone to redo it locally? Thanks and I appreciate any advice.

Finding a Gun Smith is one thing.
Finding one to take on the job is another.
I know this does not answer your question, just be prepared for a search.
EllWood Epps might have some information for you.
They are in Ontario.
Not a recommendation , just a piece of the puzzle for you to digest.

Kimball Arms (Sean69 on Cgn), the guys a genius with wood and his sole fault is perfectionism. Not much of a downside really.

Thanks meo! I’ll send him a PM as well! As I understand it the receiver is aluminum on this and the wood is only finished in Walnut (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). The receiver is in good shape cosmetically on this one, so I guess I’d be looking for a re-blue on the barrel and to have someone go over the internals.

A magnet will tell you if it's ferrous metal or not

Try Ryans in Fonthill, he used to do excellent work , but he may be retired, or slowing down on his acceptance of jobs no Last time I was there he was only open 2-3 days a week.

Do you want the gun to remind you of your dad's old used rifle... or do you want the gun refinished to look like a new gun?

I have seen it many times over the years... an old 'family' rifle redone to look new... and many times it is regretted because it no longer looks like it should...

Very important thing to think about op
If the rifle shoots and functions good why change it? I'd keep it as it was handed down to you.

Thats what I have done in the past, but if they are not good shooters Ive redone them back to good working order.
