Looking for a good Red Dot for my AR. Any ideas???

I have the Vortex SPARC, Aimpoint H1 and EoTech EXPS here's my opinion.

SPARC: Affordable optic, multiple mounting option included, come with a cheap 2X, compact. I had to use the warranty for the power button.

Aimpoint H1: It's a Aimpoint!! Top quality red dot, batterie life, quality of the glass...you might have to buy a mount depending on the model. I think the Aimpoint PRO is the best ''affordable'' quality red dot kit.

Eotech EXPS: Quality sight, battery life s@%k compare to Aimpoint but I don't mind I have a few spare in my pistol grip. My personal favorite, I love the reticule and the clear field of view.

I've used an EoTech before and personally I found that the batteries didn't last very long, and that it was pretty heavy for what it was. I have the Bushnell TRS, and for the price it's a good little optic. I got a Vortex Spitfire the other day, and it has an illuminated reticle that is also etched, 3x magnification, and runs off of 2032 batteries. It's made for the 5.56mm catridge, so it has the etchings to account for bullet drop. It's a good little optic but I haven't really put it through it's paces.

I would stick to 2 moa if you can, not bigger. I found the 3 moa on the trs and strikefire to be too large.

Depends on your application. I recently ordered a 3.5MOA dot (definitely not a good recommendation for a general use rifle sight) for sub-100yd play. Most good guys are running 4MOA dots for running such stages. Anything smaller is slow and anything bigger is more for pistol use.

Posted this elsewhere but I think it applies here as well:

For me EOTech EXPS2-0, has side buttons allowing for easy use with a magnifiers no NV (I’m not that hard-core). I have tried just about everything that’s legal and in my opinion these things are #1… have them on all my AR’s.
