Looking for a good single shot 45-70 rifle

I wanted a single shot 45-70, but then I found a #1H in 458 Winchester, which I decided was close enough, so I bought it. Two weeks later there was a Browning 1885 in 45-70 listed in the same local newspaper. So you know what I did...

That being said. This guy is so full of #### that his eyes are brown. Shots inside 1km...no #### sherlock!
Ya guy admits he s not a real good shot and wants to shoot up to 1 km and wants to use a 45/70 as well. I think he watched Quigley down under too many times. Also even Quigley didn t use a 45/70 lol.

I've shot my Sharps and Rolling block out to 880 yards. Even if you could hold 2 MOA with the irons, that would be a ridiculous poke on game. The flight time alone is enough for the animal to move entirely outside the zone where it could be hit, even peripherally. And hits to the periphery don't kill game.

Maybe this will help the OP out -

600 yards is only a 170" or 14 feet bullet drop difference from muzzle!

Maybe if he instead aimed for 1600 yard targets the drop would not be so bad.

hey, you guys are giving the op bad advice.... shame on all of you. to get accurate shots with a 45-70 out to a km, you need to hold and shoot with the rifle upside down so the bullet drop will go upwards instead of down. much more accurate that way

...and, you're welcome

Good advice...

...and make sure you insert the cartridge the correct way, with the bullet pointing away from you, otherwise you will shoot your eye out !

I like shooting my 45-70 with blackpowder at long range. It’s a fun and entertaining game but nothing else. You can eat a sandwich while waiting for the pathetic little “tink” sound on steel (amplified ear muffs help), and drops and wind drift boggle the mind. Still fun, but theres a reason why this thing is obsolete.

That's brilliant , does it work to shoot around things I wonder ?

Ya, I figure he is an artist of the BS kind. The 1885 is also a beauty that I keep an eye out for.
I'd love to get my hands on a B78 or an 1885 . They do come up , but they don't last long . I missed a B78 in 45/70 last spring . It was for sale locally . The guy let it go for a g note , that one hurt . I live in hope .
