Im thinking a Tikka t3 stainless, however it looks like the t3x will be out shortly with some minor improvements. Ideally i would just like to have a great time at the range, and also have it be a superb hunting rifle. Durability/ruggedness/simplicity is a big plus as well. Budget isn't a huge issue but probably sub $2k or so. Suggestions?

Target rifles are usually not good hunting tools. Too heavy.
Hunting rifles are usually not the best range rifles, even though they are very accurate.
Howa 1500, TC Venture, Weatherby Vanguard 2, Remington 700 Mountain Rifle.

What do you mean by "range use?" If that means 20 rounds to you, then any of the hunting platforms will suffice... if that means 200+ rounds, then you will need a heavier rifle. There are many "Predator" rifles built in .308 Win that split the difference between the two pursuits... this style of rifle usually sees more rounds at the range than a typical big game rifle would, plus still needs to be carried in the field... this may serve your purposes better than going with a hunting rifle or bench rifle would. Take a look at the Ruger M77 Predator... Prophet River generally has some in Stock.

These are fun little rifles 700 sps-aac-sd... 7 1/2lbs dry so not too heavy for hunting. I have 2, one in .223 and one in .308. These are the 16.5" but they come in 20" as well.

Some of those news features in general look good, but that CTR modular stock looks goofy and problematic. Bad enough losing a mag in the field, but what if you lost the grip.

That drop down mag would be a in pain to carry in the field. Deal breaker right there.
