I've had no luck on the internet in finding someone in Western Canada who can shorten the stock on a Norinco (Winchester) M97, my wife who is 5'3" has problems running the action properly/ Any ideas?

Cutting down the stock isn’t difficult. Fitting the proper grind to fit buttpad is a bit more entailed. Preferably using a fitting jig.
Fitting the shotgun to the individual would be beneficial to keep in mind as well.
Apologies for not being able to recommend anyone.

If you are having trouble finding a gunsmith to do this for you, you may want to enquire with a local cabinet maker, perhaps you might even find someone in the trade who is a gunnut

I wish I was 50 years younger... there is such a big market out there for gunsmiths today ...

Thought of this years ago, they are also legislated to death, overhead is high and people do not want to pay a pro what they need to survive and earn a decent living (forget about $50/hr gunsmithing from 20 years ago, these guys need $80-100/hr. now). With the poor revenue it is not a occupation anyone is looking at. All that is left is the guys who were around 20 years ago and have established businesses, but with the latest Turdo attacks they are hurting now too. No one is getting into it. Like most things in society the craftsman is a dying breed as we embrace the throw out and buy a new one, disposable world.

I will never be rich ,work to some extent 7 days a week, have no pension- ill likely keel over my checkering cradle ,so no it's not a good choice ...but one I'm happy to live with
