Hey guys
I'm looking for a inexpensive knife to clean bear or geese ect... Something kinda unerversal..
I have the Gerber Bear Grylls knife but I don't think it's built for that ..
Seams like a bush wacking knife to me ...
Obviously not ment for that kind of job..
Thanks again

Mora for sure. Very easy to sharpen to hairy scary sharp and awesome value for the pittance they ask price wise. Check out Mora Firekniv, its got a firesteel rod that packs in the handle and will save your arse in a pinch. Google it.

I have a Mora and a Buck Vanguard. The Buck is a very good knife, and comparison to the Mora makes an excellent demonstration of the law of diminishing returns. Costing four times as much certainly doesn't make it four times as good, sharp, useful, etc. as the Mora.

I've seen more than one guide whip out a stamped Victorinox butcher knife for field dressing big game.

I use Spyderco tenacious and the next larger size I can't remember the exact name I think it's resilience. I've gutted and skinned bear deer and wolf with them. Great sharp knives. However a exacto knife with the break off blades is the best for skinning. Razor sharp and as soon as it's not break it off and slide it up. Available at any dollar store

Take a look at the Havalon knives, I just got one for the upcoming hunting season. Been seeing it Meateater and Jim Shockey's hunting show a lot and figured I'd give it a go, he cleans everything from bears to moose to fish with it.

Yeah, let me clarify "butcher" knife - not a specific knife shape/blade type, but rather a knife that a butcher would count among his many knives. What I've seen being used is more like a hefty boning knife or smaller skinner.

I love my Havalon's for what they accomplish and the price I pay for them. I do not, however, enjoy them aesthetically. They are strictly a tool for me. They are amazing for skinning but they are times when I need a little extra strength in my blade. I usually have my Havalon as well as my Puma White Hunter or Arno Bernard along while hunting.
