Looking for a MB pistol Guru

Have hecked over and over it definately is not my thumb pushing it up. With no mag in it takes a fair bit of force to push it up. With a mag in you can basically sneeze and it comes up. So I can see with the recoil how that can happen.

For a while I was thinking a weak spring for the little plunger or not enough of a indent in the stop. Dealt with those and is still doing it.

I guess I cannot weaken the springs in the mags.

Recommendations for good reliable mags?

springs in mag should have not anything to do with it , as if there are rounds in the mag, the follower can't push up the stop, I don't have a 40, , bullets pushing it up? sounds strange I know, but strange stuff happens.
try taking the slide off and installing the stop and load a couple rounds in mags and see if anything looks off, also with empty mags, any different ones ?

Metalform mags engage the slide stop better in my 10mm than the mecgar mags, that your SAM probably came with, do.

slide stops on 10mm/40cal 1911s can be fussy.

the follower is thinner than a 45 which the 1911 was made for . I have a 9mm and no problems with it, cheap norc, great gun, I had a SAM, 45 and it as fine. but don't think that would have any thing to holding open with ammo in mag?

I reread this post and messed up , so the P.S. , have you taken the slideoff and check that, the mag body must be having some effect on it.

Why is that? Why should they be any different???????

AUGHHHHHHHHH

The metalform have a somewhat different follower. Seems like it better fills the width of the mag body than the mecgar does, which tends to slip sideways from the projection on the slide stop.

I just installed and tested an Ed Brown 40/10mm slide stop in my RIA gun and tried it today for the first time. 200-ish rounds through 6 assorted mags - metalform, mecgar, tripp cobra (which also did not work with the OEM slide stop) - all 100% for function.

Brownells pn: 087-000-117WB if you're wondering
