Looking to buy a cheap .22, probably a bolt action. All you rimfire experts out there, gimme a little advice.

Should I buy something like a Norinco JW15, or spend a little more for something like a Savage MarkII F or FV? I think I've heard good things about the Savage MKII's. Any other suggestions?

My vote goes for The Savage MKII FV!

Another recommendation for a Savage FV , I have a 93FV in 22WMR with Accutrigger ,I put it in a Boyds Tacticool stock,Harris 9-13 inch swivel base notched leg bipod with bipod lock lever,Bushnell elite 3200 3x9x40.

I had feeding issues but discovered that by bending the magazine mounting tab forward a tiny bit the problem was fixed as this raised the front of the mag a bit.
I really like mine and it is a really accurate shooter but the original stock is kinda flimsy in my opinion so I changed it for a Boyds .

I have never understood why one would want to buy "cheap" firearms. These are not toys. Things do go wrong, why not buy something you can trust your life to, as that is exactly what you do everytime you pull the trigger.

I had this discussion with myself earlier this year looking at a first rifle for a child. I settled for a hand-me-down family .22LR. The local gunshop had a Henry starter rifle and a Browning T-Bolt. The Henry was rough and sized for a small person; the Browning was a rifle to grow up and grow old with. The decision was made for me with the gift of a 50-yr old Remington.

So, don't overlook old guns in favour of only brand new. If you absolutely have to have a new gun, buy quality not low price. And that T-Bolt sure got my attention!

I recently purchased a Zastava G5 from EPPS and found it to be a really good buy for the cost ($285). Metalwork all nicely blued with walnut stock and, to top it off, it is accurate.!!

I would buy a Savage or Zastava Z5.
I have both and it's a toss up which is more accurate. I like the fit and feel of the Zastava more. Triggers are both adjustable. Zastava comes with descent sights as well.

If you think I'm "trusting my life" to a 22LR you're sorely mistaken (you think I'm using this for home/personal defense or something? Where did I ever say that?). I have other guns for that if that situation ever arises.

I'm just looking for a decent cheaper rimfire bolt gun.

I think the comment was meant more for if you were in a situation in the wilderness ... not home defense. We all have weapons of choice for those circumstances.

I definitely would not want to rely on some cheap chinese knock off if I found myself stuck in the bush with just a .22 that I thought I could trust.

Go with the savage, i own one in .17hmr and have never had any issues with it, and deadly accurate.
The synthetic stock i did change though, just didn't like it so i got a boyds thumbhole stock.

There must be one heck of a pile of synthetic savage stocks in storage closets across the country. I just bought a mark II FVT, and I know that's the first thing I'm changing. Not to hijack, but do you need to replace the trigger guard and bottom metal when you switch to boyds?

It depends on what you want to use it for. I have a jw15 trapper and love it. It's not going to win a markmen compition but it will take down a cyote or a gopher. It punches about a three in group at 100 meters with junk ammo.

Yes you will need to change those and get some new screws, the boyd page tells you the part numbers and then you just phone savage and order it, pretty easy

That's a no brainer. Savage. Norc=junk

You don't even have to call Savage anymore, you can get them right from Boyds now. The only problem is, a custom stock and a set of bottom metal puts the price over $100.00 so you have to make two separate orders and you get nailed for double shipping.
