Hello I am looking for a new scope and was going to buy the Nightforce NSX 3.5-15x50 but just can't spend that kind of money right now so i am looking at the Leupold VX3 LR, Vortex Viper PST, Bushnell Elite 6500, Ziess Conqeust, Nikon Monarch X and just can't decide the scope will be going on a Remington 700 in 300 win mag and will be used for Target shooting between 600-800yard and will also be used as a hunting rifle in ontario for a few weeks in the fall or any other scopes you could recomend under $1400 would be great thanks.

I was in the same boat a couple of weeks back. I already had a Bushnell Tactical Elite 6-24x50 SFP. Ended up buying a Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP. The glass doesn't seem much different but the FFP is nice to have.

I'm doing it wrong. How does someone who can't figure out which scope to buy get to a state in life where he can afford $1400 for a scope? Lottery? Knocking off rich relatives? Here are a couple of options for you:

1. Get a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40, on sale at Cabela's Canada for about $160 and just shoot with that while you think about what it does for you and what it doesn't do well enough. When you are done and ready to make up your mind, put it in the EE for $100 and you'll have a buyer in about five minutes. So about $80 out of pocket to rent a scope with which you can perhaps enjoy the discomfitting of other shooters who threw a lot of money at their toys and can show no discernible difference in their shooting.

2. Show pictures of all those scopes on your list to three friends who may or may not be into shooting and poll them to see which one they think "looks coolest". Buy the one that scores highest.

Sounds like a plan to follow.
