hello well i have bough a ruger mk 3 22lr handgun to practice the right form and just for fun! i think im ready to move to a centerfire handgun now. any ideas?
thanks!
Get in tight with the guys in the local clubs. Go out to the practice nights for IPSC or IDPA or other matches. Bring ammo with you. Mention you are looking for a new center fire gun so you can join in the fun. They'll all but trip over themselves to let you try their guns. If they just hand you loaded mags offer to replace the ammo from your boxes. Often as not they'll likely say to save it for your own gun. But they'll appreciate the offer.
It'll be YOUR gun to fit YOUR hands. There's not really much point in buying something WE like that fits OUR hands. Far better if you can at least hold the guns yourself. And far, far, far better if you can shoot them and get a few pointers from the guys that you'll likely be shooting with sooner or later.
I do encourage you to look into the competition shooting scene in your area. Even if you do not really want to compete it's still the most fun you can have with a handgun. Perforating paper gets old quick. Ringing multiple steel plates with multiple quick shots always leaves me wanting more. And the fact that you'll meet a great group of like minded folks isn't a bad thing at all.
Oh, I almost forgot... Buy a CZ...
If you don't like being compared to others don't sweat it. All they ask for is that you shoot safely and within your comfort zone. With practice and trigger time the speed will come on it's own. And if you want some pointers they'll be happy to help you out.
